Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

New rule of reference: if the patron's needs are inexplicably strange, GenAI has probably led them down a substantially fictionalized blind alley.

Yes, absolutely, the work of being human is "discursively cocreating the world we inhabit." We often forget that things we hold as truth or as values have to be re-cocreated by every generation or else it will be co-destroyed. And GenAI is a destroyer, not a creator.

Physical mail is so carefully controlled - pen color, paper, etc. - that the only way drugs are getting into facilities is with the people who come and go: prison guards. Nothing's getting in through letters. It's just another way to punish people in prisons.

When I went through my parents' papers & found the original title & deed covenants on their house, it included a paragraph about not selling to black people. House from 1959, over a decade after SCOTUS ruling making such covenants unenforceable. Sold with covenant in 1971. They're everywhere.

There are a lot of signs of an impending economic crash: effective blockades of important trade routes, an AI bubble carrying 1/3 of the stock market, tariffs adding to inflation, dwindling support of the US internationally, and an inept administration incapable of navigating any of these problems.
