I feel like a major lesson of Trump is that people like him will act in bad faith or violate the law no matter what, so it's literally not possible to Trump-proof a policy except through robust removal and punishment provisions for people like Trump.

One answer (not the only one) to the false dichotomy between identity politics and class politics is credit. Credit is both recognition/acknowledgment and an institutionally legible claim on social provision. The commodity form is not a “real abstraction” we live under; it’s an interpretation.

What if the politics of representation was the politics of credit. To give credit, after all, is to bestow recognition in a way that is institutionally actionable.

"This book made me feel bad" is real, your feelings are real, but its not necessarily because the author has done something wrong. Competing needs are a thing, some people need things that are antithetical to what others need. Someone needing what you don't like is nt a reason to completely dehinge.

Here's a familiar chant: "money for __, not for war." Many of us have said it in the streets. All of us get its logic: let us invest in one thing rather than the other. Its aspiration is noble, but its logic is premised on an incorrect, or at least incomplete, assumption about how *money* works. 🧵

Ive been saying for a while now, that the fear and disgust of disability and aging and death is driving the technofascists' apocalyptical thinking, in addition to their extreme eugenicist thinking. They truly believe they and they alone deserve to survive and thrive in this world.
Thiel’s philosophical assumptions might sound bizarre to outsiders, but they appear to be widely shared among the tech elite. “A.I. and its capabilities represent something analogous to the Second Coming,” Jeremy Nixon, a founder of an A.I. hub called A.G.I. House, said in May. The technology, some tech titans believe, will allow humans — at least some humans — to escape the bounds of earth and even perhaps the inevitability of death. It represents liberation from hopelessness and decay.

Currently, so much labor is not only uncompensated but publicly unaccounted for. Because this labor doesn't exist on public ledgers, it's hard to treat their provision as matters of public responsibility. We need a public finance system that recognizes all the activities we want to coordinate. 🧵

If the public relies on taxing the rich to fund public goods, we'll need the rich to stay rich. 🤔 If we replace the rich (i.e., elite hoarding) with democratic ownership, we'd still need profits. 🤔 We must re-design public finance so that we need neither the rich nor profit to fund public goods. 💡
