Very good and significant news in the display and international justice world. The #ICC Assembly of States Parties will not be held at the UN in New York, but in The Hague. There’s no way America was going to be rewarded for its behavior and no way participants could be safe.

On this day, 24 years ago, during a stopover in New York on his way to Montreal, Maher Arar was detained by the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), based at least in part on a mischaracterization of Arar that was provided by the RCMP. He was renditioned to Syria by the US.

A red flag for me is ministers have to take into account economic feasibility when establishing conditions on a project. I think the one year decision clock starts "once ... all required information and studies have been received from the proponent". So that may reduce my concern on that point.

As a layperson skimming Carney's new bill, I noticed further weakening of the Bill C-5 requirements. Ministers can now 'add, remove or amend conditions' even if they 'increase the extent to which the effects are adverse' - if the amendment is 'in the public interest' www.canada.ca/en/one-canad...

However, von der Leyen also said "we see the world with the same eyes. From AI to climate change..." At this point the EU seems to take climate change/action far more seriously than Canada does. And I see no indication that Carney is willing to take urgent action - he is backpeddling.

Just had a quick look at the running 30 day replay of Central/Eastern Pacific SST (sea surface temps). This real-time chart shows the water temps anomaly (1991-2020 climate baseline) Now, I have live thru several El Niño events, but this one takes the cake thus far-unreal.

👇👇👇!! The PM insists Canada is committed to net zero in 2050, but repealed and weakened policies mean we'll be lucky to hit our 2030 target by 2050. Getting to net zero demands adopting policies NOW to ensure longterm transition. You don't get to your destination by going in the opposite direction.
