I was shocked at the Court of Appeal ruling re bike lanes: The legislature may well be wrong; in time, the phenomenon of induced demand may operate to undermine the effects of the legislation ... ...in the medium or long term, induced demand is no more than a prediction as to what might occur.

Pre-approving projects before environmental reviews are completed is reckless. You cannot undo damage to ecosystems or reverse extinction after the fact—the government must protect our environment, not bypass safeguards.
Screenshot of an official parliamentary debate excerpt regarding Bill C-39 (Building Canada Strong Act) from October 6, 2026.
The image shows comments from two Members of Parliament:
* Jean-Denis Garon (Bloc, Mirabel, QC): Expresses concern that Bill C-39 allows the government to pre-approve projects, such as pipelines, before environmental and safety reviews are completed, potentially causing significant harm to health, safety, and the environment.
* Jenny Kwan (NDP, Vancouver East, BC): Agrees, emphasizing that preemptive approvals undermine environmental safeguards, noting that ecosystem damage and species extinction cannot be undone once the harm is done. ✅

I often see people argue that clean energy is not reducing emissions, because it just adds to rather than replaces fossil fuels. This argument is deeply misguided – clean energy built since 2005 has displaced 23 billion tons. I dive in over at The Climate Brink:
theclimatebrink.com
What if the world hadn't built wind and solar?
Clean energy does not simply “add to” global energy use; it displaces fossil sources that would otherwise get built.

His plan has no details. His 'plan' as it stands means we don't hit the 2030 target until 2050. And as this thread started he tried to block a lawsuit that would have required him to publish a new plan for 2030 - let alone 2050. He is gaslighting us.

And it will increase our emissions. And Carney doesn't have a plan to reduce them. He keeps deflecting to net zero by 2050. We aren't nearly on track. And how much cumulative emissions is he willing to generate???
