I spent a long time puzzling over how the country turned on Bush after Katrina. My conclusion has shaped how I view politics. War in Iraq was his fault & it killed a lot of people. The introduction of torture was his fault. But Katrina was a natural disaster. Odd that that was the thing.

A thing we don’t handle very well is punishing corporations. Something like this should trigger a review where the owner/board has to make the case to the government that the company should not be essentially nationalized with no compensation paid to owners. Fines are simply insufficient.

I have bad news for people about the average level of virtue in the US Senate. They are overwhelmingly bad people. A few of the Republicans are interpersonally-kind monsters. And a few of the Democrats are flawed-but-basically-good people. But those are exceptions.
