You're not supposed to just get to do a long series of crimes just as long as your political party is in power. That's not how anything is supposed to work in a functional constitutional republic.

Man, I hate this sort of headline. The President of the United States & his mob family just straight up started committing serious crimes, on the regular, and everyone & everything that's normally supposed to be a check on that just let it all happen. This isn't a story about Democrats

There’s a motte and bailey to it. That ambiguous text and terms of art can codify a meaning understood at the time of adoption is true and mundane. But in practice “originalism” has become just this: bad faith window dressing for right-wing policy preferences and pro-Republican partisanship.

Mark Zuckerberg tells investors that his AI push is a huge success. But when it files its taxes, Meta tells the IRS its giant data centers are an experiment that might fail. Why? Because calling them an experiment lets Meta claim a tax credit meant for real research.

GOP ads right now are all about attacking trans people. Over, and over, and over. I was a gay teen in 2004 watching the Bush campaign try to win on attacking gay marriage, but the resort to this hate drive in campaign ads feels so dialed up now. I can’t imagine being an lgbt kid watching tv today.

Trump’s superpower has always been that he radiates an anti-gravitas field, such that anything he touches becomes seen as fundamentally unserious. This has allowed Trump to pursue wars, tyranny, and corruption of immense gravity, while everyone tries to avoid looking like they care too much.

A microcosm of my frustration with 🇺🇸 political media for years now. The AfD in 🇩🇪 is, if anything, <less> far right & authoritarian than the GOP, but neither @nytimes.com nor any other major media outlet regularly calls them a far right party. But as soon as it’s 🇩🇪, right in the headline. Every time.

The Sunday Shows in 🇺🇸 would probably never platform an AfD politician, & yet, every week, they host & enable & normalize the 🇺🇸 equivalent, as if it’s just “normal politics” circa 1978. Other, more serious choices remain readily available.

ONE MILLLLLIONNN dollars. I laughed! $500 is a decent bid at someone’s vote (not $5000, but still good) but to make a difference in any specific race you’d have to target exactly the right people, which I think would be 1) very difficult and 2) more obviously illegal.

If USA Today is indeed unilaterally putting source interviews in some sort of database, in their entirety, allowing them to be cherry-picked by other reporters—and *AI*(!!)—that is journalistically indefensible and no one should ever talk to them again. Is this true? Is it Gannett wide?

I’ll also add that most of the heat should be directed at USA Today, but the journalists who participated in this breach of ethics also made a choice. Organizations are made up of people. We can’t absolve the people who do harm on the behalf of an organization.
