I didn’t realize it was based on a book that is fans really wanted to see adapted! RIP to them. The director, amazingly, agrees that we all collectively share the blame of the final product together, and he’s humbly just as responsible for it as the rest of us.

On Twitter, Robbie Collin of The Daily Telegraph characterised the film as "The Crap Budapest Hotel", elaborating in his review:

It's plaster. This is a complete clown show. "No one was injured but Mr. Trump claimed online that a security guard had narrowly avoided “certain death.” It's plaster debris. They left it for two weeks.

A storm brought down a five-foot piece of ceiling plaster at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts this month and its leadership sprang into action. One thing they did not do was repair the damage.

Instead staff members left the mess on the carpet for nearly two weeks, posting photos on social media with commentary like “the place is falling apart and @realDonaldTrump wants to fix it.” They measured plaster shards and mapped the “debris field” like investigators after a plane crash, for a 55-page briefing for the center’s board about the building’s decay.

The CNN Harp story really mostly doesn’t have the goods, but this line, meant to be a defensive throwaway, is probably the worst of all of it. Trump has never had a “father”-anything with his actual kids. He has bragged openly many times and out loud about not doing any of the things fathers do.

One person familiar with the matter said she and Trump have a
"father-daughter" relationship.

Having finally seen the movie and read this piece, I can now say that they’re both good, but damn, she misses the point big time here. The entire structure of the movie, the entire Athena thing and the way the movie presents it & then only spells it out at the end IS what it has to say

as air. In comparison with other blockbusters
—such as, say, the Die Hard films, also action-packed tales of one man's dangerous journey back to his wife—The Odyssey contains far more pontificating about values and civilizational decline, but much less coherence and less heart. It gestures at a critique of xenophobia and violence, but it focuses primarily on the perspective of the guilty, traumatized warrior rather than that of his victims. Moreover, the movies devoted attention to mechanics, and its heedless willingness to give us massacres as spectacle, undermines its moralizing claims of caring about man's inhumanity to man. Verbally, we are told that people matter; visually, we are shown that they do not.
