The best time to move off PowerBI was years ago. The second best time is now. No-code tools have always held competent analysts back from basic engineering practice: version control, code review, anything you’d expect from a serious team. christopherdillon.me/blog/2026/04... #powerbi #analytics

PowerBI Is a Tax on Competence
Why plain text, version-controlled analytics is a categorically different thing from drag-and-drop BI — and why LLMs have widened the gap permanently.

Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".

Family of Southport stabbing victim criticise plan to reveal ethnicity of suspects
Exclusive: Michael Weston King, grandfather of Bebe King, warns government against ‘kowtowing to the likes of Farage’ The family of Bebe King, one of the three girls killed in the Southport attack last year, have urged ministers to reconsider their support for disclosing the ethnicity of serious crime suspects, saying this information is “completely irrelevant” and that “the propensity to commit crime happens in any ethnicity, nationality or race”. Bebe was six when she was murdered by 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, a Welsh-born black Briton from a Christian family who had lived in the local area for a number of years. Continue reading...

Highly esteemed Mrs. Curie,
Do not laugh at me for writing you without having anything sensible to say.
But I am so enraged by the base manner in which the public is presently daring to concern itself with you!? that I absolutely must give vent to this feeling. However, I am convinced that you consistently despise this rabble, whether it obsequiously lavishes respect on you or whether it attempts to satiate its lust for sensationalism!
I am impelled to tell you how much I have come to admire your intellect, your drive, and your honesty, and that I consider myself lucky to have made your personal acquaintance in Brussels. Anyone who does not number among these reptiles is certainly happy, now as before, that we have such personages among us as you, and Langevin(3) too, real people with whom one feels privileged to be in contact. If the rabble continues to occupy itself with you, then simply don't read that hogwash, but rather leave it to the reptile for whom i

It's not even a "people are instinctively good" thing. I wish that were true, but people are... everything. But I do think selling kindness is more frictionless than selling hatred. It's just less useful for the kinds of people who might have the money to wage either kind of propaganda campaign.

3 months ago, I wrote this about centrist parties aping the far right, and how it's not just immoral, but suicidal. This is not secret knowledge. It's the most reliable effect in world politics. It's watching 40 guys getting killed by the same gorilla, one by one, and stepping up to take your turn.
You accept the far right’s entirely false premise that immigrants increase crime, that the housing crisis is due to migrants rather than your own bad policies, or that foreigners are swamping the health service, rather than holding it up with their bare hands in the face of your own drastic underfunding of the system.

And you become less popular. You, the sensible moderate, continue to slide in the polls against the very parties whose policies you were trying to steal.

A sizeable number of your own base are appalled, and you have failed to impress a single racist.

Because everywhere, from France to Germany to the Netherlands to the UK, as with Fanta and its supermarket imitators, it turns out people prefer the original to the copy.

No matter what you do, the far right will always want the next cruelty, and their torch-bearers in the press will attack you for not delivering it. All while priming voters to conceive of far right concerns as newly moderate. Again, this has happened in every single place this has ever been tried.
You’ve driven away your traditional base, while sanitising the racism of the far right for low information voters, who now consider them more reasonable.
You have moved the sensible middle position toward the far right — where you now stand, boxed in, by the ghouls you’ve just baptised as moderates.
And the slide continues. Because you cannot placate these people. You cannot reach an end.
Round up every refugee in camps and they’ll want the next cruelty.
Their concerns are not about society, the economy or public safety, they’re an ever-moving target of fear and hatred that cannot be sated, it has to be challenged.
And now it’s too late, because you thought that you — and you alone! — would be the first centrist to steal the fascist’s lunch by agreeing with them rather than fighting them with every fibre of your being.Daily Mail headline NO CAP ON MIGRANTS IN LABOUR'S CRACKDOWN, in response to the most repulsively draconian statements about immigrants evere uttered by a Labour government.

Statement by Translucent providing some context… Written by a lawyer with decades of experience in this area.
Translucent is disappointed with today’s Supreme Court judgement. However we need to consider the judgement carefully before responding fully.

Translucent is aware that many in the trans community will be extremely worried by this decision and its implications.

We would like to reassure them that they are still protected from discrimination, victimisation and harassment because of their protected characteristic of gender reassignment.

If a trans community member experiences discrimination or harassment, we suggest they promptly seek legal support, whether from a local solicitor, free advice centre, or a family solicitor and consider what legal actions they can take to protect themselves and others.

It is vital to remain calm whilst our legal teams evaluate the consequences of this decision and consider whether further action may be taken in the European Court of Human Rights to reinstate any rights we may have lost.
