What I find striking about every one of these “politics are too hostile” takes, is that the emphasis is always on the people with higher standards to lower them to allow violence at the table. How come Cox isn’t telling the right to love their neighbor? Instead it’s come to the table with Trump.

I read a couple hundred death penalty cases for a case once and I think you’d all be shocked at how often this happens. The death penalty is one of the cruelest things in our system, an obvious violation of the 8th amendment cruel and unusual punishment clause, but we just love to kill.

Any time I try to teach environmental chemistry as a one-term class, I'm reminded how inadequate that time period is. You really need at least a year to get a handle on everything.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

For me, the hardest thing about stories like the Cornell gang rape case isn’t reading the initial details—although that is hard. What’s even harder is when men online, especially the journalists and pundits, start trying to combat the feminist outrage by purposefully seeding doubt and victim-blaming
