📢 #CrossOriginStorage API update: we have renamed `navigator.crossOriginStorage.requestFileHandle()` to `getFileHandle()` for better symmetry with the OPFS API, so it's easier coming from OPFS's `getFileHandle()` (developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W...). OPFS's `name` is COS's `hash`.

Between AI data centers driving up component prices and the impact of trade wars & the war with Iran on consumers’ finances, this has been a bad year for consumer electronics. There’s an irony in AI spending propping up the economy while making consumer electronics unaffordable.

Netflix is reportedly planning to lay off 5% of its workforce, or about 850 people. The reasons cited are declining viewer engagement, competition from YouTube and a falling stock price. Curious to see if they mention AI when the announcement is made as that’s been the 2026 layoff cover story.

[some-subscribed-rss] New Post: I’d like to have a universal pseudo selector in CSS, by Kilian Valkhof kilianvalkhof.com/2026/css-html/id-…
Teaser:

Kilian Valkhof spent an hour debugging why two identical elements rendered differently. The culprit? `box-sizing`. But the real twist: his global reset using `*`, `::before`, and `::after` didn’t cover `::details-content`—a pseudo-element baked into the browser’s own stylesheet. That missing selector meant inheritance broke, and his “universal” fix wasn’t universal at all. He explores the problem and floats a provocative solution: a `::*` pseudo selector to target every pseudo-element in one go. Will the CSS Working Group bite? Read on for the full debugging story and a proposal that could save future hours of head-scratching.

I need help from @svelte.dev @storybook.js.org users. We're considering adding support for stories extending other stories, with partial overrides where necessary. Would this be a big deal to you or not at all? How would a syntax like this work for you? Would you like something else instead?
Svelte Storybook code showing using an extend(Story) snippet to nest Story components.

Code:

<script module>
	import preview from '#.storybook/preview';
	import Button from './Button.svelte';
	import Icon from './Icon.svelte';

	const { Story } = preview.meta({
	  component: Button,
	})
</script>

<Story name="Primary" args={{ primary: true }}>
	Click me

	{#snippet extend(Story)}
		<Story name="Primary Small" args={{ size: 'small' }} />

		<Story name="Primary Large" args={{ size: 'large' }}>
			{#snippet extend(Story)}
				<Story name="Primary Large Starred" args={{ disabled: true }}>

					{#snippet template(args)}
						<Button {...args}><Icon name="star" /> Starred</Button>
					{/snippet}

				</Story>
			{/snippet}
		</Story>

End of the road for Deno. They were acquired by Cloudflare. deno.com/blog/cloudflare #Deno
To everyone who contributed code, built businesses on Deno, reported problems, and trusted our direction: thank you. Here’s what this means concretely:

    We will support the Deno runtime for another year with monthly releases containing bug fixes and security updates. After that year we will end our development of the Deno runtime. Deno will remain open source, and we welcome others who want to continue its development.

    Deno Deploy will continue operating for six months before shutting down. We will provide migration support for paying customers moving to Cloudflare Workers.

    JSR will continue operating, with its infrastructure moving to Cloudflare.

    We will continue supporting rusty_v8 and work toward integrating it into workerd.
