Every. Single. Time.

The balloons are up. The cake says "1 in 4 Americans has a disability." The punch bowl is full. And the entire product team is in the parking lot arguing about whether the new button color is "more of a teal or a cerulean."

Meanwhile, screen reader users are navigating your checkout flow like they're defusing a bomb designed by someone who has never heard of a bomb.

The accessibility advocates I know have the energy of people who have explained the same thing to the same person seventeen times and are now doing it an eighteenth time with a smile that has stopped reaching their eyes.

The WCAG guidelines have existed since 1999. That's older than most of your interns.

Nobody cared then. Nobody cares now. The party continues. Unattended.

Anyway, happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day. The cake is getting stale.

As an e-commerce website user, I want to see "sold out in my size" articles in listings without flaging them and such when I filter by size, so that I can get the surprise of being disappointed when I click on said article and see it's available in all sizes except mine. Says none, ever. 🤷‍♀️

If you only have a library of components, you will struggle keep consistency with your design system at scale. And it gets worst once you bring AI into the mix. Matt Rothenberg gave AI agents the same component library and ended up with 3 different setting pages.

Let's talk cooking and data-viz, 2 things I love. I don't think I've seen a recipe presented in this sort of "ingredient to process flow" diagram. I love how it's a very intuitive way to present a cooking recipe. Also, this sauce looks delicious. joshnesbitt.cooking/xo-ish-sauce/

A recipe process diagram listing ingredients on the left (2 banana shallots, 8 garlic cloves, 4 red chillies deseeded for less heat, 300ml groundnut oil, 100g dried shrimp, 100g cured ham, 1 tbsp dried chilli flakes, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp caster sugar) alongside process steps. Finely chop and fry in the oil until softened, soak dried shrimp in warm water for 30 minutes then drain and pulse until shredded, pulse cured ham to a similar texture, cook low for 30 to 40 minutes until deep golden brown, stir in and cook for a final 5 minutes, then cool and jar with the solids covered by the oil.
Each instruction is written at the intersection of the ingredients that are needed for the instruction.

Very naive question: is it useful to report Temu items sold on Etsy, or do they just don't care? I mostly report them because it makes me angry when someone tries to sell me crap disguised as "hand made", but, at this point it feels like emptying the ocean with a spoon.
