@dorkdad.bsky.social Well one of the assholes he kept running into was you. You're a liar, you've followed this whole story from hating him to cheering him to hating him again. You chose to perpetuate a really gross slander on the target of death threats, over absolutely nothing.

There was literally a pangolin that flew combat sorties with the CIA in a dirty war in Laos that then died after drinking too much gin, so there’s at least one pangolin whose record is morally ambiguous

AOC: Whether it’s people in the Epstein files still roaming free, or the president, a known rapist, continuing to occupy the White House, all of this has contributed to the normalization and the idea that incidents of harassment shouldn’t matter. And I think today was an important turning point

I said this elsewhere, but in infosec there is the notion of the 'determined adversary'. Disciplined, persistent, goal-driven. But there is a sort of inverse idea: the determined victim. I think we can think of many such people here.

Okay this isn’t really happening anymore so I can tell you how l had “internal ICE sources”: the 3000 very stir-crazy ICE agents were all going wild on Minneapolis Tinder. Local girls would match with them and string them along for intel. They loved to brag about what they were doing all day

A great way for y’all to support Jews, by the way, is to call these people the fuck out when you see this happening because there’s almost zero pushback against any of these comments and Jews are left to try and counter it alone.

this is a useful comparison but actually way undershoots the extent of the purges in China by only counting the officially gone and excluding the much larger category of disappeared, which adds about another 69 senior officers since 2023. chinapower.csis.org/china-pla-mi...

What I'm really interested is in a system that produces just outcomes as often as possible and for as many people as people. Right now that I'm thinking that's social democracy with probably legimate market socialist party, but also avoid the duopoly thing with ranked choice voting.

there's actually one guy named "claude" a hyper competent frenchman given a special cocktail of amphetamines that they keep chained up in a basement in San Francisco. the usage limits are because sometimes he dies and it's necessary to decant a new clone and give him more amphetamines.

In fairness it’s not like the consequences of having a mad king unilaterally take the country to war on a whim were so incredibly obvious that you could see it coming from the 18th and 19th centuries www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
“Kings had always been involving and impoverishing their people in wars, pretending generally, if not always, that the good of the people was the object,” a young representative named Abraham Lincoln wrote in 1848. This was “understood to be the most oppressive of all Kingly oppressions and they resolved to so frame the Constitution that no one man should hold the power of bringing this oppression upon us.” This quote, incidentally, is immortalized on the House’s website, if any members of Congress are looking for it.

Virologist Charlotte Friend (b. #OTD in 1921) proved viruses could cause cancer (1957) & revolutionized virology (& helped define modern retrovirology). She later pioneered differentiation therapy, showing cancer cells could be "reverted" to health, defining a new path to treat cancer. #WomenInSTEM
A black-and-white montage portrait of pioneering American virologist Charlotte Friend (1921–1987), who discovered the Friend leukemia virus and advanced understanding of retroviruses and cancer. The main image shows her in her laboratory, seated at a compound microscope in a research setting lined with shelves of scientific books and journals. She is a middle-aged woman with short, neatly styled dark hair, wearing round-framed eyeglasses, a pearl necklace, and a white lab coat over a patterned blouse with a floral collar. She smiles warmly and confidently at the camera, one hand resting near the microscope's stage, conveying dedication, intelligence, and approachability. In the lower right corner is a smaller inset close-up portrait of a younger Charlotte Friend, smiling brightly with softer features, short wavy hair, and a simple white blouse, highlighting her earlier career. The composition blends her professional lab environment with a personal archival photo, celebrating her groundbreaking contributions to virology, leukemia research, and women's roles in science during the mid-20th century. The overall mood is one of scholarly achievement, warmth, and historical significance.
