So Discord rolled out an age verification update. Which is made completely moot if the channel / Discord isn't marked using Discord's in-system stuff. I tested it. You can literally just untick the "Age-Restricted" marker on a channel you made and...that's it.

Agreed. The typical "scary narration" voice doesn't work outside of campfires and scary stories to children. Honestly its one of my biggest pet peeves with horror story narration. But something I find much more effective? Speaking with a pleasant, gentle voice. The dichotomy fucks with folks.

I like it when I can unsettle players (within their boundaries) in genres that are otherwise fantastic or heroic. Star Trek Adventures episodes where it slowly becomes apparent that something is wrong behind the curtain. A dungeon crawl where they're being steadily pursued by an unkillable foe.

Tip for the GMs and writers out there; Sometimes law and public opinion are the difference between a violent conflict and someone having to back off. Its a great tool to use with PCs as well. Put someone they would love to kill right in front of them - #TTRPG

Another one: people act "out of character" sometimes. Information is never perfect. Even when the players think it is. As such, retcons can be seen as this. Imperfect information that is being updated.

Be more direct. Your subtle worldbuilding hints and suspicions are fantastic for fiction, but not for play. "Something somewhere is doing something to affect the water -hint- in Olvermire!" is worthless. "A dragon has chased all the fishmen from Whitethorn mountain, they've overrun Olvermire!"

Your own personal interests experience and expertise are super important, what makes you feel 'awe' in real life can guide your personal world to share with others. "Retcons" are fine, do 'em mid campaign if you want, it's collaborative storytelling and collaborative story editing too.
