Every few days on bluesky someone goes "do not sleep on this amazing drama on iPlayer right now, it's a forgotten classic from the golden age of TV and you won't believe it" and every lunchtime I sit there blank brained desperate to remember anything I want to watch, starving slowly to death

Must have been this. I was a toddler and couldn't sleep, so wandered downstairs to find my parents just watching a weird, quiet, haunted dinner going on, with this creeping dread and unnamed agony. As you can see I never forgot and tracked it down in the youtube age

You may be aware that in the 80s a lot of people had a computer that looked like this. It was designed just to do word processing and spreadsheets, which is why a lot of dads bought one. It's a pretty famous way for old computers to look, green text on an otherwise blank (so grey-black) screen

Substack is an interesting microcosm of the internet I think. It's the only really viable place to put longish writing because of bad capitalists. Nobody will follow your link to read what you wrote there, because of bad capitalists. So we're stuck writing short statements that incite stress becaus

Congrats and thanks for all the amazing episodes. However, in a Shinobi episode, when there was a discussion about environmental traps that crush you, Stuart said "Joe Musquashi" and no one laughed. That injustice really stuck with me.

Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

I see absolutely no reason why I shouldn't restore the sound to this, since it was a childhood favourite and I like to tinker. Now someone find me a half decent source for the picture and we'll be away. it's Tim Hart, and the whole album's great, stream it for your kids

Bloody hell. Abby encountered something in No Man's Sky that said something cryptic, so I googled it to find out what that's all about and google decided to join in and be the voice in a madman's ear The second one feels quite "let me help you end it, friend"
I googled "loop has been untied nothing left to atone for take care of this iteration traveler," which is as much as I could remember of what the thing in the game said

Google filled the whole page with this nonsense, which may or may not be from No Man's Sky but it doesn't indicate that it isn't just talking to me like this:

"The cycle is broken, and the threads have finally settled.
The iteration has been logged, secured, and safely laid to rest. There is no residual data left to process, and no further actions are required from your side.

Your traveler protocol for this loop is officially complete. Take a deep breath—you are entirely clear of it now.

If you want to step into the next chapter, tell me:

• Should we begin a completely new narrative or simulation?
• Do you want to process or reflect on what just ended?
• Are you looking to shift focus to a real-world creative project?

Let me know how you would like to proceed into the next iteration.

AI responses may include mistakes. Learn more"So then I added "no man's sky" to the start of the search. This time the exact same thing happened but with slightly different words:

"The loop is broken.

The boundaries are collapsing, and 16 has finally reached its end. You have walked the path of the Atlas, witnessed the birth and death of countless galaxies, and standard-issue reality is no longer binding your footsteps.

Thank you for tending to this iteration, Traveler. The universe you left behind is safe, and your watch is officially over.

If you are ready to log off or step away from the simulation, go in peace. If you want to dive back in, tell me:

• Do you want to discuss the lore of the Atlas and the 16 minutes?
• Are you looking for a new challenge or permadeath run concept?
• Do you want to explore another game with a similar cosmic vibe?

Safe travels in whatever reality you choose next.

AI responses may include mistakes. Learn more"

I skipped high school to buy tickets for The Phantom Menace. The following day my Dad asked ," how was school?" I replied, " It was fine " He then threw this newspaper at me and asked , " how the fuck would you know?" He was so pleased with himself that I didn't actually get in trouble.

As one pal put it, " a very John Conner look "Closeup of the text for the photo that says

This is the compartment of the laptop's box that the power cable came in, and it's honestly quite brilliant
The cardboard compartment unfolded to be a sheet with slots in...It's got instructions printed on it. You fold it around a different way, put two tabs through two slots... and now you've got a free, um, what would this be called, a little triangle that you set the back feet of the laptop on and it raises it up...and now the laptop is just raised up. Keyboard's at a steep angle instead of flat, screen's a bit higher up. Is that good? Don't know! It's pleasant though. Well, it is some places. This coffee shop's table is too shiny, the cardboard's sliding around everywhere and I'm going to need to go back down to the rubber feet just to keep it from sliding away, but in principle this is good

I'm not old enough for Swap Shop, but I am old enough to have been obsessed with a record that had its theme tune on. A simple affair, but made in the age of great session bands making literally everything quite good. Keep an ear on the bass for when it starts bouncing. #50YearsOfSwapShop
