My Jeffery Archer story is that he came to our school when I was about 15 and our class got to speak to him. I asked him for advice on getting published (his advice wasn't great tbh). Then he said in front of the whole room "You'll never be the next Tom Cruise but you could be the next Tom Clancy".

This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

I remember renting Millennium on video. For some reason I was really excited to see it. My mum had to explain what a millennium was. I don't think I really understood it, but I remember it being one of those grown-up films you see as a child that makes you feel more mature for having watched it.

I'm sure if I asked my mum she might mention something else, but the two things that spring immediately to mind are Zelda from Terrahawks and the wolf from Neverending Story.
Zelda from Terrahawks. She's a puppet, like Thunderbirds, but she looks like a witch, has wild hair and dark eyes From the Neverending Story, the kid whose name I've gotten looks at a hole in a stone wall, from which emerges a wolf so black you can't tell where he ends and the shadows begin. All you can really make out are his bright green eyes and his open jaws

This proved to be quite popular yesterday, as far as my usually-ignored blog goes. My ranking of my favourite skills from the Lemmings games. Who'd have thought there'd be a bunch of fortysomething British nerds on Bluesky, eh?

I'm getting fed a lot of celeb-junket-banter type promos on Instagram for the movie Verity. I have come to the conclusion that I don't really want to watch the movie Verity but that going for a night out with Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson would be fun.

Looking over my thread of all the sci-fi films I've watched this year, and kind of amusing that I watched these two 2026 movies sorta back-to-back. The best and worst new films I've seen this year, probably.
Screenshot of my Bluesky feed, with two of my posts visible. One is a review of the sci-fi film Mercy, starring Chris Pratt; I hated it. Immediately following it is my review of the sci-fi film Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling. I adored it.

I love Brad Bird, and I really like the sound of this... But does anyone else feel it looks a bit... I dunno... Flat? In the design and the lighting? Like a film that came out ten years ago. And also sadly Skydance is run by John Lasseter, who really should have just retired as gracefully as poss.

The Secret of Monkey Island (1990). Before then, all games I'd played were basically puzzles. Monkey Island was a film. You took the role of a person - a named character - and TALKED to people. You walked around an island at will. It blew my mind, the scope of it, the interactivity, the humour.
Screenshot from The Secret of Monkey Island. In a blue-tinged nighttime town, with buildings that look like they're from the 17th century, two vaguely cartoonish, pixel art men stand in the centre: a short fat man in a long coat with a green parrot; and a taller, skinnier man in white shirt and black trousers.

It'll bamboozle me to my dying day the way Skybound got all this instant industry praise when, over 15 years or so, IDW delivered everything from "what if Ultimate Universe but Transformers" to "what if Old Man Logan but Hot Rod" and a ton of stuff in between. Who DOESN'T want a Wheelie head?

The Transformers: The Movie (1986) Borderline-impenetrable if you're not conversant with the franchise, but that aside I still think this is an incredibly fun hard-rock space opera. Action-packed, great soundtrack, gorgeous design; fascinating touchpoint in animation history, too. #SciFi2026
Still from Transformers the Movie. Optimus Prime and Sunstreaker are at the controls of an Autobot shuttle; behind them, the Dinobots are getting ready to drop out and confront Devastator.

It's been interesting to watch The Black Hole and 20,000 Leagues sort of back-to-back this week. They're both Disney films that aim to tell a darker, more adult story, but get hung up on also trying to be cheery populist entertainment. So TBH features goofy robots and laser battles... (cont)

Happy #BatmanDay! Enjoy this scruffy comic I made years and years ago.
Scruffy, scribbly three-panel humour strip of Batman and Robin.

Panel 1: Batman & Robin side-by-side. Batman says "Robin, it's time I introduced you to the most powerful move in my ninja arsenal: the Dick Punch."

Panel 2: close up of Robin, elated. Robin: "Golly Batman, did you name it after me - Dick Grayson?"

Panel 3: Batman - with a grin - is punching Robin in the dick. Robin is flying off-panel. A huge sound effect reads "DICK PUNCH".

Sometimes I just get so angry with myself.
Scene from Transformers the Movie. Optimus Prime stands in the middle distance. In the front of frame, Ironhide angrily shakes his fist at Optimus. This is funny, see, because both of these characters were played by Peter Cullen. Hence "angry at myself", or whatever it was I said.

Why does the Nine Months poster look like someone just zoomed in on the Mickey Blue Eyes poster
Screenshot of a list of Hugh Grant movies, focussing on Mickey Blue Eyes and Nine Months. The Mickey poster has Grant in between two people, the woman on the right appearing to kiss his cheek; the Months poster is a closer image, with Grant's face dominating, and another woman leaning close to whisper but in a very similar position to the first poster. If any of that makes sense.
