Australia’s “president of negotiations” role at this year’s COP31 conference is an exercise in hypocrisy. And it’s one that an increasing number of nations are seeing through, especially our neighbours in the Pacific.

I’m excited to step up as Deputy Leader of the @Greens alongside @DavidShoebridge. My generation has grown up seeing politicians sell out our future for corporate greed: delaying climate action while housing, childcare, and living costs get harder to afford. It has to change.

The only people who want to see the Northern Territory fracked are gas billionaires and the politicians doing their bidding.

Georgie Dent’s National Press Club address today was both a testament to her work on early childhood education and care, and an urgent call for long-overdue action.

Taxpayer money isn't Labor party money either! Albanese should hold his government to the standard he wanted the Morrison government to be held to.

Solidarity with Raelene Cooper and the Traditional Custodians of Barrow Island and Sea Country. Rae shouldn’t have to take Chevron to court to force proper consideration of the climate and cultural impacts of Australia’s biggest LNG export terminal.

Once again, Labor and their corporate party mates have teamed up to block a minimum 25% gas export tax. While Australians struggle with the cost of living, gas giants are raking in billions in war-driven windfall profits.

The news that charges will be sought against Inpex for under-reporting its toxic emissions is yet more evidence that these multinational gas corporations will always put profits before people and planet.

Even Labor’s own members are sick of their party’s cowardice on a gas export tax. The draft proposal heading to their national conference this week proves they’re feeling the pressure to stop taking direction from the gas lobby and implement a minimum 25% tax on gas exports.

Albo met with the chair of Shell, just to assure him that he’s not going to implement the tax on gas exports that we all want to see. Shell wouldn’t have called this meeting if they weren’t nervous - let’s keep the pressure on with a national vote at taxourgas.com

Data centres are a blight on the neighbourhoods they're built in, use as much water as hundreds of thousands of people in one of the most drought-prone countries on earth, and are artificially propping up demand for dying energy sources.

So relieved to hear that no workers or community members were harmed in the Viva refinery fire in Geelong. The refinery sits very close to residential areas, and it was a scary situation for them overnight. The ongoing fire is also impacting the air quality around a big patch of Geelong.

These are the sort of risks that the Geelong community have been saying they are worried about if Viva or VOPAK’s gas import terminals are approved by Labor. Not theoretical risks - real risks to the health and safety of workers and residents. We must urgently end our dependence on fossil fuels.

A minimum 25% tax on gas exports would raise an estimated $17 billion dollars a year. That's money that we can use to protect domestic gas supply, and fund the renewable energy transition to ensure energy sovereignty and security in a chaotic world.

Trump's threats are putting millions of lives at risk. This genocidal rhetoric sets a dangerous standard - one the Labor government seems happy to accept. Australia needs to pull out of AUKUS and stop positioning ourselves alongside such violent bullies.
