Horrifying! What’s worse is that the system isn’t broken…it’s working how it was designed. Designed at great expense by an arrogant or complicit public service (in reality by highly paid consultants) who were probably promoted for their excellent work and repeated through NDIS, medical, childcare…

It’s so dreadful. Partner is 66 years old and had an amputation -a significant and permanent disability not caused by his age. Yet because he is over 65, he is excluded from the level of disability support available through the NDIS. Write to Ministers and don’t even get acknowledgment

I reckon the behaviour of the JSPs adds to that number. Deliberate torture by a system designed to be inhuman is a shock that can't easily be shaken off. It's not a cheap system, nor is it actually aimed at job seeking, it is punitive, profitable, and outrageously cruel. We have monsters in power.

some analysis on these disturbing numbers from the AIHW here: www.aihw.gov.au/reports/cent... saying that the combination of strong labour market participation and eligibility tightening "may mean a higher concentration of vulnerable and disadvantaged people receiving income support payments."
The longer-term trend of rising mortality rates among income support recipients could be due to multiple factors. The percentage of the working-age Australian population receiving income support payments has been declining over time, due to strong labour market participation and tightening eligibility requirements for payments (AIHW 2025). More people working and fewer people eligible for support may mean a higher concentration of vulnerable and disadvantaged people receiving income support payments.

The mortality rates for men who received income support were, on average, twice as high as those for women. Men not receiving income support also had higher mortality rates than women, but the gap was not as large (average of men 1.6 times as high as women).
