Fuck being nice. We need a revolution.
We are told we have to 'keep things nice', 'be polite' and 'keep our voices down'. Using the wrong language? You're too volatile to be heard. Angry over inequities? You're too emotional, too immature. Blowing a whistle to protest? You
are dangerous. Marching in the street? You are incendiary. Daring to not smile sweetly? You are childish. And worse, say the wrong thing and you can be targeted through financial, legal and reputational consequences that can affect your
livelihood and personal safety.

WAR CRIMINALS BELONG BEHIND BARS
AND SO DO THEIR
APPEASERSFollow the Silence
We like to imagine political failure is one bad politician.
It isn't.
When a genocide unfolds in plain sight, political parties have choices.
They can speak.
They can act.
They can use their power.
They can demand accountability.
Or they can calculate the political cost.
And when they choose silence and delay, that choice matters.
Because silence can become complicity.
So don't just ask:
Who issues statements?
Who condemns?
Who expresses concern?
Ask:
Who is demanding an end to the killing?
Who is using every available lever to stop it?
Who protects political relationships at the expense of human lives?
Who knows what is happening - and still does nothing?
Because moral leadership isn't tested when doing the right thing is easy.
It is tested when doing the right thing is politically difficult. A party that claims to stand for human rights, justice and international law
cannot treat those principles as optional when they become inconvenient.
Don't follow the speeches. Follow the actions.
Follow the compromises. Follow the silence. And judge political parties not by the values they claim -
but by what they do when those values are tested

Shoebridge says people are sick of messaging without substance' David Shoebridge, the new Greens leader, says Australians are "sick of the
messaging without substance"
Shoebridge spoke to RN Breakfast this morning, saying the Greens are in a "terrific position" with robust support while the other major parties have
seen their support "getting decimated and ripped apart"
. He said the Greens would continue to work to "not just deliver some message and some
pathetic, half-baked pretend reform"
He told RN: 11 People are sick of the messaging without substance. What they're asking for is they're asking for a political party that's going to go and fight for them and take on the 1% and take on the corporations. They want to see us fighting for
that. Shoebridge added the rise of One Nation was a challenge to politics across the board, saying he wants the Greens to grow the party and bring members
in amid a shift in the political landscape. 44 We have an incredibly united membership base. We have an incredibly united party across the country. And I expect that to be how we operate as a party room, how we operate as a leadership team and how we operate as a
growing movement.

“This is a devastating decision. It's a decision that will quite literally kill people - we will be able to attribute a measurable proportion of the increased deaths & disasters & destruction of property from accelerating climate chaos to this decision.“ #FossilFuel induced #ClimateChange #Auspol
Article excerpt
But I think the real earthquake here is that a major Australian climate and environment
organisation has today very publicly called this a catastrophic failure of our institutions. And they set out systematically exactly why that is. The process was clear. The context was clear. Everything was set up for the decision to be made to protect life. But the decision was
made to protect profits instead, and screw life. In my view, it's been obvious for quite some time that Australia's governing institutions - our executive governments, our parliaments, our media, our "independent" planning bodies, our police - have absolutely no capacity to actually face up to the reality of the climate crisis. Coercive, extractive power closes ranks to protect and prolong itself. As that photo at the top demonstrates again, governments will use the police to protect profits
against people and the planet. Many of us have recognised this for a long time. Many have talked about it, mostly quietly,
behind closed doors.

This is a good piece, with meaningful echoes for Australia as the far right contributes its ascendancy here unchecked. So much of the debate about politics and power here is narratives. In the disinformation age narratives have never been cheaper. What people need instead is outcomes.
Ordinary Americans, really and truly, are not pining to hear a more compelling story about the public squalor and economic dysfunction they are compelled to live with every day. What they need is universal healthcare, affordable housing, and an education system that doesn’t drown them with debt. They need free transit, bountiful jobs, real representation at work and a government that doesn’t funnel trillions into the military-industrial complex. They need an economy where finance and commerce are properly regulated and the behaviour of most politicians isn’t dictated by the whims of plutocratic campaign donors.

What they categorically do not need is another cozy fable whose only real purpose is to sooth them amid the rot.
