The very idea that we might be able to discuss something reasonably, loses, 82 votes to 12. I'm not a bad loser, I'll take that. But the lesson is, some social media might be better than others, but it'll always be full of cvnts.

The arrogance of claiming ownership of a word that forms part of your name, when you chose it *because* people already use it. Maybe Air Canada should sue Airbnb for cheapening THEIR brand - the stupid, rip-off cottage-hawkers are not even up in the air. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Likely to become even more raw as more people realise that a change only affecting people in England and Wales was defeated by MPs from Scotland and Northern Ireland! If it had only been voted on by MPs whose constituents were affected, it would have passed.

It IS antisemitic to conflate Judaism with the state of Israel, but it's a ripping wheeze when it benefits those who support the state of Israel. This is a long read (due to the quoted interview), but very good, as usual, from @brokenbottleboy.bsky.social. Worth your time.

Today, the president met with Zelenskyy, a war hero, and Netanyahu, a war criminal. The former has to repeatedly justify the need for military aid, while the latter receives it unconditionally. This moment will be remembered as a test of America’s values — and how we failed it.

It's easy to see why Elon Musk elects to incite violence and hatred over the events in Belfast and Southampton: billionaires have got a lot of skin in this game. The broader tragedy is that we're too dumb to join the dots, and that the media chooses not to do it for us.
Two quotes, from two different New York Times articles, the second going some way to explain the first.

The first reads: "In some communities people feel left behind, struggling against a lack of jobs and opportunity. That helped created the conditions for anti-immigrant and far-right sentiment to grow and be picked up by fringe groups."

The second: “Fifteen years ago, the world’s billionaires collectively had $4.5 trillion. By 2024, their wealth had more than tripled to $14.2 trillion. Now, their combined wealth totals $20.1 trillion — an amount that is equivalent to nearly a fifth of the entire world’s total yearly output.”

Carl The Crowd-Work Crab.
A crab is performing stand-up at the “Tepid Water Comedy Club,” planning to roast audience members about their jobs. In panel one, the crab psyches itself up: “This time I can’t fail — I’ll ask them what they do for a living, make fun of them and get millions of TikTok views.” In panel two, the crab asks a audience member what they do, and they reply “I volunteer at a food bank.” In panel three, the flustered crab tries another audience member, who says “I’m a teacher’s assistant at a special needs school.” In the final panel, the crab explodes in frustration — “Ah, for f*ck sake!” — as yet another audience member cheerfully announces “I’m an oncologist.” Every person the crab tries to roast turns out to have an unroastable, noble job.
