The very idea that we might be able to discuss something reasonably, loses, 82 votes to 12. I'm not a bad loser, I'll take that. But the lesson is, some social media might be better than others, but it'll always be full of cvnts.

Slow down, Delphine. I'm just genuinely unsure why you're so angry. I've explored my thoughts, I don't think they're any less valid than yours, but if you think they are then I'll be happy to be corrected. LMK.

I entirely agree. Was anybody shitty about it?

No. I'm just saying we don't need to be arseholes. We can talk, and understand one another's positions, or not. Having seen what happened on the other place, I can't help thinking that dialogue is better than pile-ons. I may be wrong, but if I am, this isn't the place for me.

Not at all. Well, I am prone to depression, but sad songs don't bring me down. I was once voted Person With The Most Depressing Music Taste at a birthday party in Stockholm. In winter. And the Swedes know how to do winter.

Kind of reminds me of The Fall, although Mark E Smith will be waiting at the gates of Hell to beat me for saying so.

True. But you might like to live in a place where you could discuss a half-baked thought. I mean, why not?

Palmer @dazbert.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Fair enough. It's not how I read it, but I'm no expert. Not a fan of AI, fwiw, but I've been forced to use it at work. That has modulated my view, but I'm still not a fan. I came here because I hated the pile-ons and inability to discuss things at the other place. Don't like to see it on here.

Can we not have nuance? Wouldn't you rather this were a place were you could voice a thought and have it explored, rather than shouted down?

Palmer @dazbert.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
That may be fair. I don't know, if I'm honest. I don't think he's saying "just start shooting," any more than he's saying, "dip your toe in, the water's fine." Aren't we using emotive metaphors to swerve the discourse off the road? Might it be better if we could have the discussion?

Palmer @dazbert.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Agreed, but I'm not sure he's saying you can't have an opinion. I have an opinion on gun rights, and it's probably much the same as yours. But if I wanted to do a job that needed a gun (not that I can think of any!) I'd ask somebody who knew how to handle one.

Unlike most of the comments, I think this is a pretty good take. Nobody's saying you can't make a judgement - you can, and I'll most likely agree with you. But without direct experience, it's hard to understand what it can and can't do. And that's different to whether it's good or bad.

Palmer @dazbert.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Totally agree. But I guess it makes money, either because adults are not discerning, or because they're cheap. AI kid book slop makes me pine for the days when celebrity authors stole all the sales. At least you could mock them for having ghost writers, whereas AI goons think it's a badge of honour

It's clear, in these times, that some victims of genocide are more equal than other victims of genocide. 77,000 Palestinians dead and their lands destroyed, and still they want more. It's beyond reason.

I used to be a fan, but this year they're a plague (tbf it's the invasive species). Beans, tomatoes and peppers are being ruined by 10s of thousands of them. It's a shame they target the fruits 😔 Could be my imagination but they seem much later this year; is that why they've proliferated?

If Ed Sheeran had a pair of gonads he could have done something incredible there. Instead, he's cacked it like a babby, and taught a legion of onlookers that it's better to kiss arse and take the coin.

The arrogance of claiming ownership of a word that forms part of your name, when you chose it *because* people already use it. Maybe Air Canada should sue Airbnb for cheapening THEIR brand - the stupid, rip-off cottage-hawkers are not even up in the air. www.theguardian.com/technology/2...

Likely to become even more raw as more people realise that a change only affecting people in England and Wales was defeated by MPs from Scotland and Northern Ireland! If it had only been voted on by MPs whose constituents were affected, it would have passed.

If we don't write well, the point will be lost. As it often is in AI. But AI doesn't suffer if it gets things wrong. We do. Nice to see you on here Helen ☺️

It IS antisemitic to conflate Judaism with the state of Israel, but it's a ripping wheeze when it benefits those who support the state of Israel. This is a long read (due to the quoted interview), but very good, as usual, from @brokenbottleboy.bsky.social. Worth your time.

Petition: Mandate publishing annual statistics on data centre water & electricity usage
Parts of the UK have experienced a drought, and residents have been asked to conserve water. We are concerned that the concerted efforts to build new data centres could place a huge strain on our wate...

Very well deserved. I volunteer at a kids coding club, and we made a game which you might recognise, where a wide-mouthed character eats dots in a maze. One kid chose a fish for the main character, so we called it Pacu Man.

Just opened Miro for the first time in a little while to find that it won't let me just draw a diagram, it wants to me to hang out with its little chatbot friend. So I ask it to draw three concentric circles.

Today, the president met with Zelenskyy, a war hero, and Netanyahu, a war criminal. The former has to repeatedly justify the need for military aid, while the latter receives it unconditionally. This moment will be remembered as a test of America’s values — and how we failed it.
