Autobiography of Red is quirky and approachable and a pleasure—a short book. The Glass Essay is a long conversational poem about a breakup and mothers and daughters; it's bitter and funny and beautiful. You can read it right now!

Could you explain something for me? The graph Krugman showed doesn't show remotely show data centers cancelling out the fall in other spending, it's less than half, so how does it support the crowding out theory? Ofc your not in a recession, so its more complicated in some way

In 2003, the U.S. military bombed Iraq’s national seed bank in Abu Ghraib, effectively eliminating hundreds of varieties of indigenous seeds adapted to growing in the drought-prone desert climate. A year later, U.S. law prohibited Iraqi farmers from seed saving. (First published in 2025 by Prism)

Reform UK's funding has made headlines this year. But its ties to the UAE have largely flown under the radar. Our new report maps how an oil-rich Gulf state with no elections has built links to Farage et al, and into the wider UK far right, including Tommy Robinson. fairsq.org/petropopulis...
Report cover from FairSquare titled "Petro-populism: The UAE, Reform UK and the Far-Right". Headline reads: "Inside Reform UK's worrying ties to the UAE. New research maps a web of connections spanning Farage and the wider UK far right." The yellow-toned collage shows halftone cut-outs of Nigel Farage in profile on the left, Richard Tice at the bottom centre, and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed on the right, set against a backdrop of oil pipelines stretching across the desert.

Our Swedish Social Democrats explicitly modeled their campaign after Starmer's Labour. In some ways they're even more reactionary. The opposition led by 8-10% just weeks ago. No scandals and certainly no economic turnaround to explain it. Even if they squeak in, they blew the election.

Interest payments are already the highest as a percent of GDP they've ever been in all of US history, on track to keep growing, despite CBO assuming average rates never break 4.2% (see follow-up post). If rates stay elevated, it's a disaster for our long-term outlook.
Interest/gdp is set to grow from 3.2% today to 7.9% by 2056. if interest rates are instead 0.5% higher, it'll grow to 9.8%. if they're instead 1% higher, it'll grow to 12.1%.
