The new rule was introduced because some EU countries use 'marmalade' and 'jam' interchangeably - and is intended to protect the distinctiveness of Paddington's favourite spread

Suggestion: Can we Brits agree to not touch his electricity with a bargepole?
A cartoon by Adam Zygus, in which Elon Musk is at a lectern, giving a Nazi salute, with his right arm held straight and aloft. The angle of his arm also coincides with a red line on a graph behind him and to his left. This red line zigzags precipitously downwards, unlabelled but probably Tesla stock. An arrow on the end of the line shows further decline expected, and a burning Tesla Cybertruck is careering down the red line too.

This is an in-depth explanation of why Chinese EVs are cheaper than 'Western' equivalents. One thing in particular stands out 'Subsidies matter, but less than often assumed. For BYD, we estimate subsidies account for roughly 5% of the $4,700 cost gap relative to Tesla.' rhg.com/research/why...

Why Are Chinese EVs So Cheap?
Chinese carmakers have lower cost structures, driven by tighter control over their supply chains and a stronger focus on the China market. This puts Western OEMs in a tough spot.

It only costs less because the Chinese gov heavily subsidies the cost. A Tesla would cost less if the federal gov paid half the salaries of Tesla employees. What is the cost to the Chinese tax payers?
