The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

My Rage Against the Machine/Les Mis mashup is complete. This is my interpretation of the quilt guild’s summer challenge “quilt with your interpretation and/or feelings towards our current ‘democracy’” all hand stitched.
Quilt hanging on a card catalog. Neutral background with navy cursive appliqué “Do you hear thr people sing?” The background is embroidered in red starting light and getting bolder the lyrics to “killing in the name” the quilting effect is a focused sunburst from the center.

Last week I made a silly little thing: a tiny embroidery of the snail-cat or snat from the Maastricht Hours, which I put in a pocket watch case I happened to have lying around*. *crafter problems
The picture shows an embroidery set in a silver pocket watch case. The embroidery is of a hybrid creature from a medieval manuscript, commonly known as a snat. It has a grey cat head with bright red whiskers and antennae, which emerges from an orange and white snail shell. There is a lustre to the threads because they are silk, and the stitching is mostly split-stitch worked with very fine thread.

Colourful Roman glass cups decorated with animals from the Roman arena. Made in the AD 200s in Roman glass workshops in the Rhineland, they were found in ‘princely’ graves in Denmark, giving us a glimpse of how far Roman luxury goods travelled. National Museum of Denmark 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo collage shows four images of Roman short clear-glass cups painted with colourful enamel decoration depicting animals from the Roman Arena. Known as 'circus beakers', fourteen have been found in richly-furnished 'princely' graves in Denmark. The cups are dated AD 200s and were made in Roman glass workshops on the Rhine.

The top two images show two sides of the same cup

Top left: cup painted with a honey-coloured brown lion with shaggy mane viewed in profile facing right, its front and rear legs outstretched as if running at full speed

Top right: a bright green leopard with black spots viewed in profile facing left. It has a long curling tail. It’s front and rear legs are outstretched as if running. Out of shot, there is a blue goat which is being hunted down by the lion and the leopard

Bottom left: a fragmentary glass cup decorated with a light-brown lion with shaggy mane with black nose and a pink tongue

Bottom right: a standing gladiator with knee-length green leggings, cropped tunic top, and holding a blue shield, faces right towards a large brown bear seen in profile, The bear also faces right, as if moving away from the gladiator
