New paper in @science.org: As of 2025, 80 carbon-pricing instruments were in place across 50 jurisdictions. By coordinating across systems, we can increase emission reductions and avoid trade barriers from a profusion of different border adjustments. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

A 🧵on two of my all-time favorite charts. The 1st, just published by the @iea.org in the “State of Energy Policy 2026” report shows that more than half of industrial CO2 emissions are now covered by carbon pricing. Reports linked below.
The share of industrial emissions covered by a carbon price increased dramatically in 2025 to 58%.

BREAKING: $4 is back. The national average has just reached $4/gal according to GasBuddy, the highest since August 8, 2022. The rise is now the largest monthly increase GasBuddy has ever recorded: $1.059/gal for gasoline, $1.701/gal for diesel.

Here’s an interesting fact about the Venezuelan oil and gas sector: it’s ridiculously, off-the-charts dirty when it comes to methane emissions. In some earlier work, we had to change the scale to show Venezuela’s methane emissions per unit of energy produced.

Really fun listen. My only minor complaint is that they describe the amassing of the shadow fleet as an "unintended consequence," suggesting that policymakers didn't expect it. I know for a fact that's not the case! Maybe economists should replace "unintended" with "unavoidable" (Greek shippers?)
