Some cis people will literally leave their jobs over Joanne's bigotry, and others are mad they're being told not to watch a TV show. Who our allies are is very obvious to us, and we remember who they are.

Well, I would occasionally watch Simmons clips and I listened to that podcast in the past but that is done. Someone in the comments said they are expecting a right-wing swing from him any time now and... probably, probably.

I stopped watching two YTers this week because they were normalizing AI use. Adam Ragusea made a video talking about Hank Green and said AI is a good research tool (stopped video there, unsubbed). The Action Lab said they used their AI sponsor to parse scientific papers. Not watching again.

She's likely just fishing for sponsors, but what makes it egregious is Taylor has been trying to build a brand around being critical of the tech industry's attempts to destroy life on earth and it's massively hypocritical to admit you can't tie your shoes without Anthropic.

"A bunch of people would rather post on Race War Now Dot Swastika rather than Bluesky because you keep making fun of their imaginary computer friend" is a RESOUNDING endorsement for the concept of hostility.
Part of a thread from some bluecheck:
Multiple people I know have told me that they love the idea of Bluesky, and want it to succeed, but have abandoned it for X because the use agentic tools in their work and find them incredibly useful, and feel that any mention of their usage here leads to hate and ridicule.

I wouldn't bring this up if it was just one person, but it was multiple people since the beginning of August who mentioned in passing something to the effect of either "I'd spend more time on Bluesky if people weren't so anti-AI" *or* "As much as I hate to be there all the useful AI talk is on X."

I'm not saying it's anyone's responsibility to praise AI usage. I agree with much of the criticism of the tool. But for many, many people, it is a useful tech (I have talked about the ways I find it extraordinarily useful, only to have people here mock me, insisting my lived experience is a lie).

I am just noting that for all the people here who say that people should get off X and spend more time here, the reason I keep hearing from people in various circles who would *like* to do that, but don't, is the vociferous belief of many here that there are no possible positive uses of AI.

Politics is fundamentally about whose interests are promoted, whose needs are met and how power and wealth are apportioned. If there’s no discussion about this in politics and there is instead relentless hateful screaming at various menacing internal enemies, it should be clear what is happening.

So often what are called "culture wars" are one set of people saying "please can we live without perpetual persecution" and another saying "no, f*** you" but the press considering the latter group have "legitimate concerns" and must be perpetually platformed

TIL the former CEO of the company behind Bored Ape Yacht Club is now the chief executive of the company that owns Life Magazine (and a bunch of other media), a company backed by the now co-owner of the Lakers, Josh Kushner (who is also Jared's brother). So grifters gonna grift always.
The townhouse, which is less than a block from Prospect Park, last sold for $5.3 million in 2022 to media power couple Nicole Muniz and Patrick Ehrlund.

Muniz was the CEO of Yuga Labs, the company behind the viral Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT, from 2021 to 2024. She’s now the chief executive of Bedford Media, the venture backed by Josh Kushner and Karlie Kloss that acquired publications like i-D Magazine and Life Magazine. Ehrlund is the company’s chief creative officer.

It boggles my mind that in the 1970s, after Watergate, the GOP was legitimately worried that they would never win an election again because the Democrats were the party of social programs, which were wildly popular. Democrats forgot this after decades of tax cuts. Run on that shit, dumbasses

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?”

It “seeks to determine whether ADHD
is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”

“While traits of ADHD undeniably exist – the question is why they exist. Is ADHD actually a neurodevelopmental disorder? Do people with ADHD have differently wired brains? Or does our world – with…processed food, and regimented education – serve as the catalyst for certain…patterns of behaviour?”

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.
