Is there anywhere to post writing (poems, essays, the odd short story) that's less annoying to read than Medium and not owned by nazis like Substack? I don't really feel like I have the kind of following that merits a newsletter.

Gut wrenching to see four young people jailed for direct action against an arms supplier to Israel. Years in prison for protesting to save lives in Gaza, with 'terrorism' used despite no jury convicting them of it. A truly dangerous attack on the right to protest.

Misinformation is everywhere. Listening to Hannah Spencer you realise how cynical & targeted it is. Confirmation bias of all who oppose her leads to most believing fake news without even an attempt of double-checking the 'info' they read. PANEL 1: A duck is walking. DUCK: "Our chief export is shame."

PANEL 2: A duck is typing at a computer (old style). DUCK: "The shame of the unfinished homework. The shame of the misspent dollar. The moment of rest, the displeased authority, the delicious food."

PANEL 3: The duck is driving a little car. DUCK: "We have to believe we are free, and if we are free, we are in control, and if we are in control, we are responsible for what happens. And if you are suffering, you should have chosen differently. Been responsible. You were free to. Not MY problem."

PANEL 4: The duck is now eating a meal and drinking a pop. DUCK: "And anyway I guess the plan is shame just eventually punishes you into the right shape of person: Never choosing wrong again, certain, useless, and proud."

This is how communities show up for each other. Do read this by Nicola Browne from Act Now👇
Highlighted text:

A group of literally hundreds of people has sprung into action, coordinating, donating, providing lifts for families to get somewhere safe for the night, bringing food to those who don’t want to leave the house, offering shelter, car seats, toys and arts supplies for children. Ordinary people from every background, community and colour are carrying out thousands of acts of care and repair, looking after people they do not know, and showing clearly that none of this is in their name.
