Plague epidemics were a regular thing in Europe for four centuries, but they haven't been since 1722. That's because most of us don't live in close proximity to rats, fleas, and lice anymore. Comparisons to Wuhan and COVID are grossly overblown.

This story doesn't do enough to highlight the political forces at play here. Epi aid requests have to originate from the state. CDC apparently has political reasons for wanting to be involved in the outbreak investigation. PA apparently has leverage here, and they're using it.

the truly crazy making part of all of this is that voter fraud EFFECTIVELY DOES NOT EXIST. you have a better chance of finding an actual leprechaun at the end of the rainbow than of finding evidence of voter fraud that influences an election

Controversial, not so controversial, take - the dangers posed by AI are real, current, and well-documented. Those do not include human extinction within a decade, nor do they include AI-manufactured-printed-out-in-the-lab bioweapons, yet, those are the ones we chose to focus on. Good lord.

Generative AI power users accept the exploitation of artists and the environment as necessary preconditions for their own mere convenience. That is rapist logic. Sorry for being spicy. The power user privileges their autonomy over the humanity of those who produced the work they had to steal.

I saw someone say today, and I couldn’t agree more, that LLM power users show the exact same kind of arrogant entitlement and disdain for consent as rapists. Idk. That hits. As an artist and a rape survivor, that rings absolutely true to me 🤷 Generative AI uses rape culture logic.
