There is a wild corridor (council owned) at the bottom of my garden. Huge tall trees. It's amazing! All the birds, insects, & various critters that visit the garden is joyful. Trees/branches have come down in storms, causing damage, which was stressful - but I'd still hate to see them cut back!

I managed to catch 'Afterlife', an exhibition by Katie Paterson whilst it was on in Edinburgh - it's a collection of 200-ish small amulets, created with materials from endangered landscapes and fragile ecosystems and formed into cultural/spiritual iconography. Sharing a few powerful pieces below. 🧵

URGENT: Staffin Community Hall, on Skye, is at risk of closure if they cannot find new Board Directors asap. This is a significant resource in a remote community, which provides local jobs & supports local ND young people. For further info, contact Jo-Anne Ford at www.slcvo.org.uk
The advert post from Talla Stafainn's instagram page. Text on image reads: "We Need Your Help! After a number of years of voluntary service, the current Directors of Staffin Community Hall Association will be stepping down on 30 September 2026. The Hall must have at least three Directors. If new Directors do not come forward, an EGM will be held on 30 September. Without Directors, the future of both the Hall and, potentially, the shop could be affected. The ability of The Hungry Gull to trade in the building could also be affected". There are loudspeaker images and the Talla Stafainn logo. There is also a line at the bottom which reads: 'Please read whole post for further details' but this is referencing the original Instagram post.

Effective HIV treatment felt like a dream in the 1980s and 90s, as our friends were dying around us. But 22% of those who live with HIV are still not on treatment - a number that may be increasing as the US and other nations cut their AIDS funding, with organisations serving LGBTQ first to be cut.
On stage at Trafalgar Square, following an anti-HIV stigma rally which I helped to organise.
I’m wearing a tshirt which says ‘Respect my HIV’.

Faulds, Christopher Caldwell, Eliza Chan and many more. Haverin, Edited by Brian M. Milton, Peter Morrison and Heather Valentine. The back of the cover of Haverin, continuing the green landscape dotted with various creatures, including a robot head, lion, and a pie. Text reads: Haverin, Scots, Verb: Talking in a foolish or trivial manner, speaking nonsense. Glaswegians enjoy a bit of haverin and few enjoy it more than the Glasgow SF Writers' Circle have for the last forty years, following many hard critique sessions with a bit of a haver in the pub. This anthology is a celebration of those forty years, with more than forty stories of Fantasy, Science and the Odd from members past and present. Our minds and hearts are contested territory. We win the contest via millions of tiny daily acts. Sketches on napkins. Singing off key. Dinner table conversation. Knowing the phase of the moon, or where the watershed drains to or where our ancestors came from and how they prayed.

I was at a bookbinding conference at w'end, & it's a subtly different vibe to academic conferences. Often folk come to the craft later in life, so there's less assumption of age = experience. & it's a heritage craft that everyone wants to continue, so folk are delighted to see newcomers. 💜

With alt text, for those of us with disabilities, and also those trying to read this on their phones: Please like this reply to make it come near the top, but don't follow me for it, that's not what I'm trying to achieve.
To all the readers out there:
My deep love for Charity Bryant and Sylvia Drake, the subjects of my 2014 biography Charity and Sylvia, has kept me silent, up to this point, about Tillie Walden's new graphic novel by the same title. Charity and Sylvia's story has been so deeply meaningful to so many people-their story has, without exaggeration, saved lives-that I've tried to be happy that Walden's book is making their story more widely known, even it she chose to take my title and my cover design as well as my narrative and my research with only a single sentence of acknowledgement at the end of her book in her notes section. Walden's illustrations and storytelling are wonderful, as I told her when she reached out to me during the writing process. It would take nothing away from her hard work to be honest about how it is built on my hard work. But in Walden's publicity tour, she has repeatedly made the claim to have based her book on her extensive research in the archive without acknowledging that her book is, in fact, based on my book. This false representation demands response not only for my sake, but for the sake of all the hard-working historians out there whose work has similarly been taken without credit. No, Walden has not "uncovered a chapter of queer history" in the archives, as her media interviews have claimed. She has adapted my book without credit or compensation, and claimed my research for her own. I don't doubt that Walden spent time looking at letters at the Henry Sheldon Museum, but the story that Walden tells is not to be found there. It is a story that I pieced together from years of visits to at least twenty different archives and locations across the United States, not only in Vermont but in Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, and Washington State, as well. This is not just a question of facts but of story: the story of how Charity and Sylvia built a life together based in tailoring, struggled with their faith, and maintained relationships with t…
