I live in Warrington. My friend supports Wakefield. I'm listening to the live radio coverage and I'm not sure I can take this stress for another 50 odd minutes!

Hey, remember that time I did chapter-opening illustrations for a book? It didn't go exactly like this, but: You want me to draw a dead horse floating in a pond staring lifelessly at the reader, but like, in a tasteful way? No problem mate! 😄

It is incredible that some people are still impossible to find, having seemingly no internet presence. Massive props. I'm trying to contact someone who did a History MA at Open University. I can read their entire dissertation online, but cannot find a contact/e-mail/profile for them anywhere online!

Incredibly proud of my youngest brother who exemplifies what people living with disabilities can accomplish with appropriate support. He’s been very lucky and I wish we could make sure all people got what they need to flourish. Here he is talking about his hobby as a DJ

In light of the headlines like those again this morning, I feel like I keep coming back to the same point and I don't know why governments and legal systems don't: hold humans responsible. Humans built that AI system, they programmed it, they allowed it to run without constant oversight. Blame them.

Really sinking feeling that we've lost (without really fighting) the battle to make people say WHAT SORT OF AI they are talking about. Now we just get inane headlines saying "air traffic control are investing in AI" like that's a single technology and our only option is to choose our tribe: yay/boo

I get it, yes, we need way more regulation and oversight (and no, I haven't read the report, just this article). But humans are making the AI. Humans are doing/using the AI. Humans are breaking these laws (which already exist). Hold humans accountable for their actions. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

We recently went to Edinburgh Zoo (visiting as members of Chester Zoo) and went past the lower level of the penguin enclosure as a staff door into the utility room was open (large tanks, filters, pipes, etc) and it made me think, you know how zoos offer keepers or even gardeners for a day things?

Rest in peace, Wendell Berry.
The Peace of Wild Things
Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars waiting with their light. For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

I have thoughts about why settlement and citizenship applications are up (speaking as someone who just submitted my own naturalisation application, after being eligible for the last 13 years). Also, a lot of Hong Kongers who arrived on visas just became eligible too, for ILR and/or naturalisation.

Reading all these 'Dolly was kind to me stories' and I think that while she did pour money into things that needed it, truly, kindness costs nothing. And being kind makes everyone feel better. The recipient feels seen, and the kind person feels good about themselves too. Abundance.

This is a related and expanded graphic which emphasizes an important point: Higher speeds reduce your visibility and reaction time, making it more likely you'll hit someone or something, and then when you *do* hit them, it's more likely to be fatal.
A graphic that says Why Speed Matters

Below that are two stats:

Drivers yield 75% of the time while traveling 20 mph
Drivers yield only 17% of the time when traveling 37 mph

The next line shows that drivers have a much wider field of vision at 15 mph as compared to 30 to 40 mph.

Finally, there are three stats:

9 out of 10 pedestrians survive when hit by a car traveling 20 mph
5 out of 10 survive at 30
1 out of 10 surive at 40
