Here's a Discogs listing that inspires confidence: "No CD- Just 2LPs, box, book, insert, preserved hype sticker. CD is probly under the seat of my car. I can look for it if that's important to you as the buyer."

Saha Gnawa played a free World Music Fest show in my neighborhood last light (literally down the street from my house) and Maâlem Hassan Ben Jaafar was thoroughly jammin' on the guembri. I love that instrument so much.

Spooky Spotlight on scary publications I've made: "Provisional Costumes" from Public Collectors was made in one day of scouring eBay, looking at thousands of personal photos of people doing their best to look frightening or something. Last copies for $7.00 here: halfletterpress.com/provisional-...
The cover of the color photo booklet Provisional Costumes showing a woman with Dracula teeth, grey in her hair, and a red cape. Two costumes: a person dressed as an old woman in a colorful dress and a grinning hunchback. Three people in costume with one wearing a wolf man mask in what appears to be a work break room. Two people in costume - one who is wearing a white hair wig and huge fake white beard, possibly dressed as Moses, and another wearing a silver wig and a confusing robe of sorts.

This week I learned the exciting news that you can take empty RISO ink tubes to Staples and they will give you $15.00 total for 7 of them per month. This is great for me because I never thew these away (why?!) so I have enough for about $150 in rewards. Free office supplies for recycled ink tubes!

Cronos has laid down his soul to the gods rock 'n roll. A true pioneer. Growing up I was always much more of a Celtic Frost devotee but Venom's influence cannot be denied. 63 years is far too young. You were wild man, WWWWIIIILLLDDDD!!! youtu.be/AJuiWya6wfs

Electricians are in my home doing a variety of things but the thing I'm most excited about is that they are replacing all of the lights in my basement/studio/work cave. The difference is astonishing. I can't believe I suffered with such shitty lighting for 14 years. I'm SO excited!

PUBLIC PUBLISHING ACCOUNTABILITY POST: It's October 1st and I have a new zine that is almost ready to go to print. It will be my 15th Public Collectors publication so far this year, but as @prisonculture.bsky.social knows, zines are not a competition. Just 12 pages but it's a LOT to think about.

PUBLISHING BLOG: 6 hours after returning home from the incredible NY Art Book Fair at 1 AM, I started processing mail orders that came while I was away. It's work that has to be done, but it's also work I love to do. Self-publishing is hard, but I am my favorite boss I've ever had.

Public Image's rather limited set from Riot Fest yesterday. Seems pretty comprehensive!
A whopping three songs (their set was shortened by rain).

PUBLISHING BLOG: My 126th Public Collectors publication feels finished. It's called "Who Are Your Neighbors" and it's a a self-assessment tool to help you gauge your awareness of your neighbors and how deeply connected you are to the people that live on your block. It'll be ready in early October.

Highlight of Riot Fest day 2 is Social Distortion going five minutes over to play a song about immigrant rights and making a statement against white nationalism right before Morrissey’s set, which had been bumped up to play early because of the weather.

I'm opposed to Riot Fest happening in a public park and sad that the rain and mud will even further destroy Douglass Park more than the fest usually does. I just saw today's schedule and they are ending early. This means Morrissey only has 45 minutes to say something racist. PiL's set is 20 minutes!

PUBLISHING BLOG: Because I only have a million things to do, I decided to start a new zine. I might ask a couple people to help write it with me because I think it would benefit from some extra input. I will be sure to ask people who are also spread extremely thin so I can compromise them too.

Question for police abolitionists: Do you ever go to community safety meetings that include police? There have been a string of sexual assaults close to where I live and the victims need support, but sharing space with cops at community meetings organized by the Alder makes me very uncomfortable.

Librarians! Zine-Makers! This new Temporary Services zine (made with @doormouse12.bsky.social) is for you! We interviewed 4 public librarians that maintain zine collections and the result is a beautiful 44 page booklet. See and learn how they do it! $10.00 (or $3.00 PDF) from www.halfletterpress.com
From the front and back cover of the booklet:

Public Librarians Discuss Zine Collections

We asked librarians at four public libraries to talk about their library’s zine collection. What advice can they share with zine makers that want to get their work into a public library, or librarians that want to start a collection at their library? Was it hard to convince others that zines are a resource that the library should collect? What collecting models did they follow? How did they build the collection?

Interviewees:

Tim Devin / Somerville Public Library
 (Somerville, MA)
Angi Brzycki & Ziba Pérez /
Los Angeles Public Library
(Los Angeles, CA)
Alicia Tate / Multnomah County Library

I like self-publishing more than I like putting on events because publications always find an audience, but it doesn't have to be at a specific date and time, and in a specific place. It just needs to happen, eventually, and if it takes months or years for 300 or 500 or 1000 people to read, fine.

I had a free but ticketed event tonight that only 7 people could attend because of space. Tickets sold out quickly. People were reminded yesterday. 1 canceled, which is fine, but the other 6 did not cancel and did not show up. I'm not mad, but also am reluctant to give people future opportunities.

One of my favorite times in the creation of a publication is the period where the project is at the printer and there's little you can do but wait. Space opens up in the brain for other things and next projects, and I can try to relax for a week or two. Or do laundry and clean something.

Artists and publishers and writers often seem to describe their audience as a singular consistent entity, but the power of art and publications and writing is that you can have multiple very different audiences for different projects and they don't need to share overlapping interests at all.
