URGENT: Staffin Community Hall, on Skye, is at risk of closure if they cannot find new Board Directors asap. This is a significant resource in a remote community, which provides local jobs & supports local ND young people. For further info, contact Jo-Anne Ford at www.slcvo.org.uk
The advert post from Talla Stafainn's instagram page. Text on image reads: "We Need Your Help! After a number of years of voluntary service, the current Directors of Staffin Community Hall Association will be stepping down on 30 September 2026. The Hall must have at least three Directors. If new Directors do not come forward, an EGM will be held on 30 September. Without Directors, the future of both the Hall and, potentially, the shop could be affected. The ability of The Hungry Gull to trade in the building could also be affected". There are loudspeaker images and the Talla Stafainn logo. There is also a line at the bottom which reads: 'Please read whole post for further details' but this is referencing the original Instagram post.

By 2070, the likelihood of a global economic crisis due to 'catastrophic climate shocks' will be significant. 'Cascading failures'. 2070 is only 45 years away. Depending on your age, you might not experience it, but most young children alive today will. We need to be doing more and faster.
Actuaries predicted in 2025 that the global economy could face a 50% loss in GDP between 2070 and 2090 from catastrophic climate shocks, far higher than previously estimated.

I did some cyanotype practice at home the other day. This one uses part of a quote by John Muir. The full quote is 'The clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness', which feels like a good vibe to bring into the new year. 💜🌲🍁

There are white speckles across the page, and a rough white border. In the bottom right corner is some handwriting, noting 'John Muir' as the origin of the quote.

Today is National Poetry Day in the UK, so I'm sharing this by @mosababutoha.bsky.social - a Palestinian poet who writes of his experiences growing up in Gaza. This is from his collection "Things You May Find Hidden In My Ear". (Full text is in alt text if image is hard to read) #NationalPoetryDay
A poem from the collection: 'Things You May Find Hidden In My Ear' by Mosab Abu Toha

"Leaving Childhood Behind"

When I left, I left my childhood in the drawer
and on the kitchen table. I left my toy horse
in its plastic bag.
I left without looking at the clock.
I forget whether it was noon or evening.

Our horse spent the night alone,
no water, no grains for dinner.
It must have thought we'd left to cook a meal
for late guests or to make a cake
for my sister's tenth birthday.

I walked with my sister, down our road with no end.
We sang a birthday song.
The warplanes echoed across the heavens.

My tired parents walked behind,
my father clutching to his chest
the keys to our house and to the stable.

We arrived at a rescue station.
News of the airstrikes roared on the radio.
I hated death, but I hated life, too,
when we had to walk to our drawn-out death,
reciting our never-ending ode.

I saw the Knife Angel in Perth on Sat. Made by British Ironworks Centre from over 100,000 knives used in knife crime, collected during a UK amnesty, it stands 27ft & weighs 3.5tonnes. Some blades have been engraved by families devastated by knife violence. It was incredibly powerful to see it.
Image of the Knife Angel, standing outside the Perth Museum. It is tall and seems to loom high overhead. The photo shows it from the knees upwards, with some of the museum pillars in the background. The angel has a human form, with head tilted and looking downwards with a concerned expression. The arms are bent at the elbow, with hands showing palm open and outwards. The body is mostly compiled of small/medium knife handles, with blades slightly less visible amongst the handles. The wings are almost the full length of the figure and are made of rusted blades. The overall Angel is a rusted brownish golden colour, with glints of different colours of handles or less rusty blades.
