I don't make the rules. Smallest model you can date is half your logged parameters plus 7. log2(1.5T) + 7 = 27 while log2(70B) = 36. Relationship approved.

I have a “Quiet Posters” feed as my second timeline, and with alarming frequency I switch to it by accident, then refresh madly wondering why nobody’s posting.

YES you're "cognitively offloading" when you have the maps apps do turn-by-turn GPS navigation for you you're "cognitively offloading" when you do division on a calculator instead of doing long division by hand etc. etc. there's nothing inherently wrong with it, people are just weird about AI

THEY LITERALLY FLOOD THE DESERT. IT'S *SO MUCH MORE* THAN JUST OVER-IRRIGATION. They *fully flood* a place that *barely ever gets rain*. And they do it because *it nets them more profit*. That's *it*.

The GOP cut funding to the IRS because *audits work* and they fundamentally don't believe rich people should have to play by the rules.
Line chart titled "Revenue per audit," subtitled "In-person audits, 2010-2014." It plots average revenue and average cost per audit by taxpayer income percentile, poorer to richer, from the 0–5th percentile to the top 0.1%. Source: Boning et al. 2023, "A Welfare Analysis of Tax Audits Across the Income Distribution."

Across the bottom half of the income distribution, revenue and cost track closely, both around $3,000–$6,000 per audit. Above the median, revenue pulls ahead of cost: about $10,000 vs. $5,000 near the 90th percentile, and about $17,000 vs. $8,000 at the 95th–99th. At the top, revenue jumps to about $31,000 for the 99–99.9th percentile and about $90,000 for the top 0.1%.

As @segyges.bsky.social notes, here’s famed rationalist and AI doomer Eliezer Yudkowsky - who’s advising @sanders.senate.gov on AI and who is in a recent Netflix documentary - claiming that AI extinction risk is SO bad that it’s worth risking nuclear war. Which is *nuts*. time.com/6266923/ai-e...

Frame nothing as a conflict between national interests, have it

clear that anyone talking of arms races is a fool. That we all live

or die as one, in this, is not a policy but a fact of nature. Make

it explicit in international diplomacy that preventing Al

extinction scenarios is considered a priority above preventing

a full nuclear exchange, and that allied nuclear countries are

willing to run some risk of nuclear exchange if that's what it

takes to reduce the risk of large Al training runs.

It's why you get all these hacky proposals like Trump's dumbass dividends or the left's newfound obsession with tax cuts. Policy ideas become more about treating sentiment, which can be detrimental to the actual health of the economy, which can trigger a death spiral.

We’ve got an air source heat pump (both before and after the switch to propane) but we’re in a cold climate, and it’s more of a shoulder season heat source for us. I would have liked to have evaluated a better solution, but the old furnace died in a 0 F cold snap so we were under the gun.

We switched from heating oil to propane 2-3 years ago, and I hadn’t noticed much cost savings yet, but it looks like this winter will be a different story.
