Heard from a colleague spending a few months in the Netherlands. "Went on a 35-mile bike ride today, entirely on bike paths, through all kinds of landscapes. Turns out I love biking, I'm just scared of biking with cars." 😢

We all hate the time change, and this is your semi-annual reminder that permanent standard time is better than permanent daylight time www.cbc.ca/newsinteract...
Standard time healthier, sleep expert says
Sleep experts warn permanent daylight time would disrupt sleep patterns and throw our internal clocks out of sync with our daily schedules.

This is because morning light has the greatest effect on the circadian clock, which governs the body’s sleep-wake cycle, explains Myriam Juda, a circadian rhythm and sleep researcher at Simon Fraser University.

according to IZA study - WA's housing shortage is 847k homes there are ~400,000 homes in seattle. and per microsoft's 2019 study, just in seattle we have a shortage of 194k affordable homes. i'd wager this number is pretty accurate. mayor's comp plan is only 110k homes docs.iza.org/dp15447.pdf

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.
