Tom Flood @tomflood.bsky.social · 20/11/2024The fact that a massive yellow bus that transports CHILDREN with flashing red lights was still not enough that we needed to add an extended arm (with cameras) with a second flashing stop sign to physically block the road from drivers tells me all I need to know about our auto culture. 1241991 419

Thomas Ableman @freewheeling.info · 20/11/2024At some point, you must explain to me why kids in America have dedicated yellow school buses. I know they're iconic but I've never really understood why it helps to have a dedicated fleet of buses that are only used twice a day for half the year. In England we just use... buses. Tell me! 6100 10
Moe @verdantwonder.bsky.social · 21/11/2024I stand in the middle of the road and wave and yell sometimes and it still hasn't stopped everybody. The ones who do stop are going way too fast, slam on the brakes just in time, and continue rolling forward even while kids are right in front of them. Hope the 15 seconds they save is worth it 000 0
Jonathan @litz.org · 20/11/2024People don't stop for flashing red lights designed to stop them from getting clobbered by a train. Why would you think they'd actually stop for *children* ? 000 0
Paul Bielec @paulbielec.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Meanwhile, in other parts of the world, a pedestrian simply approaches the side of the street and cars stop. Oh, and kids walk to school or take regular city bus to go to school... 020 2
Jbentley_atx @jbentley-atx.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Isn’t the real purpose of the second flashing arm and cameras to generate revenue for the collection firm that contracts with schools for these? Almost certain it’s not public safety. 000 0
Michelle Magnusson @michellemagnusson.bsky.social · 20/11/2024Our buses have to pull at an angle to block traffic going both ways or people will DRIVE AROUND the bus and the blinking stop arms. 🙄 010 1
Bicycle Seen @frpaul1.bsky.social · 20/11/2024But wait, there's more. Some drivers are stopping diagonally across the road to physically block drivers. Some are chiming in that they shouldn't be doing that because of emergency vehicles and the bus might stall. www.masslive.com/news/2018/11...masslive.comPhotos of Sutton bus driver stopping diagonally to block cars sparks social media debatePolice said that though the tactic would force motorists to stop, they understand that it's illegal to do so. 131 3
Scarletkate (Kathy B) Proud Canadian @scarletkate.bsky.social · 22/11/2024Our auto culture is hideous! I see people on their cell phones, blowing red lights and stop signs DAILY. A young boy was killed a number of years ago on a main street. The speed limit was lowered on that stretch to 40 km/h. People blow through there at 60 or more all the time. 000 0
