This Pacific Baza appeared totally oblivious to us as it hunted its breakfast. It's the first time I've seen one with a frog and definitely one of the highlights of today's 55 species early morning walk. #birds #wildoz #brisbane
A Pacific Baza eating a small green tree frog. It took it a while to get the frog down, but as soon as it did it was off hunting again, tracking movements with its bright yellow eyes.

I just really, really hate the effect that AI has had on art. There's an incentive for me to be less good at photography, to stop pursuing technical skill, to stop pursuing really surprising moments.

I feel so bad for all of the emerging artists living right now who don't have decades of work to fall back on to prove that they aren't AI. Like, I understand why "I was doing this well before 2022" is such a common response, but, God, we cannot just close the door on new artists forever.

Illustration of a set of European Herring Gulls lined up in front of a gray sea. All of the adults are blurred, either close to or far from the "camera", leaving a juvenile in focus with its beak open to the sky as it calls out. The adults are snowy white and pale gray with bright yellow bills, but the juvenile has a black bill, mottled pale gray head and breast, and extensive brown-gray mottling all over the wings and back.

Walking around in the bush with my head down again this morning. I’m absolutely in love with the gills on this mushroom. I think it might be a type of oysterling. 🍄🌿
Looking at the underside of a frilly oyster mushroom. The different lobes overlap, each other kind of like a nudibranch, it’s tan gills form, beautiful, ripping patterns.

I'm so tired of the bullshit "rogue agent" framing on this shit. It's OpenAI's software. They designed it badly, at best. At worst, they are using "rogue agents" as an excuse to cover up deliberate malfeasance. They should be fined out of existence and held criminally liable.
