Statement on the MPS Transformation plans made public last week
Black text on a white background, reading:
“Over the past week, I have spoken with a number of constituents who have expressed great concerns about the plans Minneapolis Public Schools announced to potentially close several schools around the city.

There have been questions about how this would impact park programming and before/after school care through Rec Plus. As we await further information from MPS about these impacts, it has become clear that the community has not felt heard or supported in the communication of these potentially seismic transformation plans.

As a Minneapolis resident and as a fellow elected, I urge the Directors of the MPS School Board to delay a vote on these plans until the community at large has been engaged and understands the potential impacts on their families, friends, and neighborhoods. If the vote cannot be delayed, I urge them to vote against these massive changes- this can be discussed again in the future, but closing the schools will have immediate consequences for the affected communities.

I appreciate the constraints and challenges they’re facing. Delaying this vote and helping community partners understand the way this will impact our joint efforts will be a net positive. I look forward to working with them going forward to see how MPRB and MPS can work together to serve our communities.”

thank you jamal osman, aurin chowdhury, jason chavez and robin wonsley for "workers drive minneapolis"! waymo is a labor issue, and we cannot allow for gains won by east african drivers who organized with MULDA to be erased. we must protect our workers and stand up against big tech taking their jobs
Osman represents Ward 6, which has a large East African community with many ride-share drivers. He has said Waymo would put thousands of people out of work, particularly immigrants and people of color.

A 2024 state study found there are more than 10,000 rideshare drivers in Minnesota, mostly in the Twin Cities and most of them low-income, male immigrants and predominantly Black or African Americans.

Minnesota Uber/Lyft Drivers Association President Eid Ali has said his group — which spent years organizing Uber and Lyft drivers and advocating for minimum wages and labor protections — is not opposed to progress, but wants it to be responsible, transparent and fair to workers who helped build the transportation industry.

This morning the Detroit Lakes School Board is meeting after they hastily passed a resolution on Pride flags/stickers in school. The room is packed with rainbows. Waiting to hear more, but from the agenda, it looks like they have a resolution to indefinitely postpone the policy. We will win this.
Wording from a proposed resolution:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the School Board of Independent School District
No. 22 as follows:
1. The role of the School District is to educate students and make them feel welcome in its
classrooms regardless of their beliefs or individual viewpoints. The District does not have
liberal classrooms or conservative classrooms. It simply has classrooms that are to be
dedicated to the education of students.
2. To this end, the Superintendent is authorized and directed to work with the District’s legal
counsel to provide recommendations for the School Board to best address its interest in
ensuring that materials and signage posted by staff in school buildings and classrooms are
consistent with the Board’s desire to avoid the appearance that the District is endorsing a
particular viewpoint or perspective on political, social, religious, or other controversial
topics in which different perspectives and ideologies are present at the local, state, and
national levels.
3. Implementation of the School Board’s July 27, 2026 motion regarding the display of non-
school materials in schools is hereby postponed in order to allow the School Board to
receive additional input from the District’s administration and legal counsel.

A real tension in Minneapolis politics is the post-Surge activation of people whose main point of interaction with community is Instagram. No clue how to find information that isn't spoon-fed via vertical video or a social-optimized graphic, blundering into situations confused and misinformed.

senator hoffman has released a new statement regarding angie craig’s actions towards him, released via EMQ’s Facebook: she is so cooked
From Senator Erin Maye Quade on Facebook:

“Statement from Senator John Hoffman:

Congresswoman Craig went on FOX 9 this morning and declared that what I said was “emphatically” untrue. Her campaign has also characterized my account as “categorically false.”

Let me be equally clear: I told the truth about what Yvette and I experienced.

The screenshots released by her campaign show direct text messages from Congresswoman Craig. They do not address the substance of what I said: that a dear and trusted friend approached us twice on her behalf regarding an endorsement, once while I was in the ICU and again while I was recovering at home.

That friend confirmed that the endorsement requests came from Congresswoman Craig. Yvette was also present for these conversations. I did not invent them, and I will not allow our family’s experience to be dismissed simply because it is politically uncomfortable.”“I acknowledge that Congresswoman Craig sent a message expressing sympathy after the shooting. My remarks addressed the endorsement requests that followed and the painful impression those requests left on our family while we were trying to survive and recover. It is dishonest to give condolences and then immediately ask for endorsement like her text showed.

Peggy Flanagan’s repeated contacts with our family were different. Peggy reached out simply to ask whether Yvette, Hope, and I were okay. She sought nothing in return.

My remarks were about that contrast, and I remain accountable for every word I said. Congresswoman Craig may disagree with my endorsement. She may defend her campaign’s conduct. But she does not get to rewrite what my family experienced or publicly attack my honesty.

After everything Yvette, Hope, and I have endured, we deserve better than having our trauma turned against us for political damage control.
