My statement on the developing situation regarding Mayor Her.

Allegations are not dispositive, and there is much that we do not yet know about what occurred between Mayor Her, senior members of city leadership, Chief Henry, and other members of the Saint Paul Police Department. The report prepared by outside counsel of the workplace conduct investigation into Mayor Her’s behavior has not been made public. The City Council has only seen the Mayor’s administration’s two-page summary of that report, prepared by a department she oversees. The allegations in Chief Henry’s complaint have yet to be adjudicated in legal proceedings.

There are, however, a few things that we do know. The allegations against Mayor Her that were made public this week are deeply troubling. They must be taken seriously by the public, the legal system, and the City Council. We also know that the Mayor’s administration’s own summary of the investigation says that the Mayor engaged in “offensive and inappropriate behavior,” “created an uncomfortable work environment for City employees,” and “sent inappropriate text messages” to at least two City employees. The Mayor was engaging in this behavior while our City was occupied by federal forces last winter, a moment when we desperately needed steady, focused leadership in City Hall.

Saint Paul city employees—no matter their title—should never question whether they will be treated with professionalism and respect by their supervisors and the city’s leadership. Our taxpayers should be able to trust that their money will be spent on essential services, not on lawsuits brought on by inappropriate workplace conduct. And every single person in our City should feel confident that the highest levels of City Hall are functioning effectively and relentlessly focused on making life better for Saint Paulites.

Any person accused of wrongdoing deserves to have a fair, impartial legal process determine the facts of what happened and assess the appropriate legal consequences. I respect that process, and do not intend to comment on the merits or specific claims in any current or future litigation. However, the existence of a legal process does not mean either the public or the Council is prevented from demanding better. As both a resident of this City and a member of the Saint Paul City Council, it is clear to me that we need and deserve more from our Mayor.

That starts with transparency. The full report from Resolute Law must be released. Just as urgently, the Mayor must explain how she is currently able to lead the Saint Paul Police Department as the chief executive for Saint Paul. A police force that does not have meaningful leadership from the people’s elected representative is not a tolerable or sustainable state of affairs. We need to know—now—what has and will be done to ensure that that leadership and oversight exists.

We need better commercial vacancy fines, too. It's not as cruel as leaving residential units empty long term, but the fact that speculators can just unilaterally blight an area w empty storefronts is bad for everyone. Both these bldgs have been empty for 6+ years.

“Over the past week, I have spoken with a number of constituents who have expressed great concerns about the plans Minneapolis Public Schools announced to potentially close several schools around the city.

There have been questions about how this would impact park programming and before/after school care through Rec Plus. As we await further information from MPS about these impacts, it has become clear that the community has not felt heard or supported in the communication of these potentially seismic transformation plans.

As a Minneapolis resident and as a fellow elected, I urge the Directors of the MPS School Board to delay a vote on these plans until the community at large has been engaged and understands the potential impacts on their families, friends, and neighborhoods. If the vote cannot be delayed, I urge them to vote against these massive changes- this can be discussed again in the future, but closing the schools will have immediate consequences for the affected communities.

I appreciate the constraints and challenges they’re facing. Delaying this vote and helping community partners understand the way this will impact our joint efforts will be a net positive. I look forward to working with them going forward to see how MPRB and MPS can work together to serve our communities.”

For a change, everybody in the Minneapolis City Council chambers seemed to agree.

The often-divided council was united last week in its disappointment that Mayor Jacob Frey’s office would not allow police representatives to attend the meeting to answer their questions about budget overspending, sending written responses instead.

Even council members normally aligned with Frey were upset.

On Tuesday, September 15 at about 12pm, a bat was found on the sidewalk on Hennepin Ave between N. Washington Ave and N 3°St.
The bat died and was sent for rabies testing. This bat tested positive for
rabies.
A woman was seen crouching by the bat and putting it into a bag. She was described as a 25-to-30-year-old white woman, about 5'5", with curly brown hair and a curly-haired golden retriever-like dog. If this was you, please call 911 and ask to be connected to Animal Care & Control.
Bites from bats are tiny, may be painless, and may not leave a mark. An person who had physical contact or touched this bat should talk with health care provider this weekend for assessment. During the week, Minnesota Department of Health can also provide rabies assessments at 651-201-5414.
If vou did not touch or have any contact with the bat, you have no risk of rabies and do not need shots.

Osman represents Ward 6, which has a large East African community with many ride-share drivers. He has said Waymo would put thousands of people out of work, particularly immigrants and people of color.

A 2024 state study found there are more than 10,000 rideshare drivers in Minnesota, mostly in the Twin Cities and most of them low-income, male immigrants and predominantly Black or African Americans.

Minnesota Uber/Lyft Drivers Association President Eid Ali has said his group — which spent years organizing Uber and Lyft drivers and advocating for minimum wages and labor protections — is not opposed to progress, but wants it to be responsible, transparent and fair to workers who helped build the transportation industry.
