Born in South London. Moved from Southwark to Norfolk many moons ago. Will probably end up posting mostly the landscape around Sheringham. The penny dropped and the mechanism emitted a faint whirring noise.

The future Grand Paris Express station Villejuif - Gustave Roussy is a masterpiece. It connects metro line 14 (already operating) to the future line 15 in this massive station. I counted a total of 24 escalators. It was eerily quiet since it’s not yet an interchange station.

I think the most important news from history today is that it’s the 39th anniversary of the (US) release of The Princess Bride—and what better way to mark the day than remind ourselves of Cary Elwes’ story about André the Giant and the enormous, life-altering, earth-shaking fart?

A fine array of Morning Glories from this morning and a couple of a Morning Glory flower with raindrops from yesterday.
The Morning Glories have gone a bit mad at the front of our house recently. Usually they have been in the pale green tub at the bottom left of the photo, which is surrounded on the outside by Morning Glory leaves. However there was a bit of an error made which meant there aren't any there this year. Over the years some Morning Glory plants have slef-seeded in the front garden and this year they have got a bit mad, with a bit of help from me and exploded upwards along the trellis and up to the top of the picture and horizontally along the ground. I counted about 50 flowers this morning in purple, shades of pink and white. I don't think we have had as many flowering before. 16/09/26.Water droplets on the pink flower of a Morning Glory in the sunshine, 15/09/26.A monochrone image of water droplets on the leaves of a Morning Glory flower in the sunshine, 15/09/26.

The usual Wednesday trip with Mum down to the front at Sheringham to watch the turnstones for a while, mainly in front of 'The Crown'. It was a bit breezy and I counted at least 30 turnstones, possibly as high as 34. More details in captions. @bridgetjanejones.bsky.social @nenbc.bsky.social
A sole turnstone, its' coat turning from summer to winter, stands on a rock that forms part of the groyne in front of 'The Crown' pub in Sheringham, as spray is thrown up from a breaking wave behind. 16/09/26.Three turnstones stand on the seawall at Sheringham in bright late morning sunshine as waves break against wooden groynes in the background.Eleven turnstones stand on top of the seawall at Sheringham this morning, 16/09/26. Most are in sunshine apart from one at the far left which is in shade from the wall behind. The twelfth turnstone at the far right is captured in flight. When Mum and me arrived, there was only one turnstone on the wall, I had brought some mealworms with me and on putting some out, a few more turnstones arrived. A little while later around 20 or so flew in from further east.

‘There’s a deer trapped in an escalator’: muntjac rescued from Norwich M&S
Animal wedged upside down nicknamed ‘lucky’ Lucy after being freed with only superficial cut on foot “There’s a deer trapped in an escalator” was not a phrase anyone at Hillside Animal Sanctuary in Norfolk was expecting to hear when staff at a Marks & Spencer department store in central Norwich called last Tuesday. “In Norfolk, deers often get themselves in trouble,” said the sanctuary’s founder, Wendy Valentine. “They get stuck between walls and sheds, and in gates. It’s quite common for deer to get trapped … But ‘trapped in an escalator’ was a first.” Continue reading...

And lo, it came to pass that the 18th anniversary of the greatest local news story ever told came upon us, and we were sore amazed
Press cutting Lancashire Telegraph, 20 April 2008: Shepherd's pie recipe rumpus. Subhead: Petrol bomb threat in tomato topping row. By ANDREW BELLARD A dispute over the contents of a shepherd's pie proved to be a recipe for brotherly disharmony. Blackburn magistrates heard that John Garvin thought that the pie his brother Michael made should have been topped with tomatoes but Michael disagreed. The upshot was that John, who was hit over the head with a shovel, reacted by threatening to petrol bomb his brother's flat. And he ended up spending a night in custody to allow tempers to cool. John Garvin, 47, of Montague Street, admitted a breach of the peace and was bound over in £100 to keep the peace for 12 months. Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said the brothers lived in separate flats next to each other. On the day of the culinary dispute they had been drinking together since 7am. "The argument started because there were no tomatoes on the shepherds pie that Michael made for tea and John thought this was wrong," said Miss Allan. John called his brother an offensive name and then said he was going to petrol bomb his flat. "Michael was concerned by this threat because on a previous occasion John had started a fire in his own flat," said Miss Allan. Liz Parker, defending, said her client did not accept making a remark about petrol bombing his brother's flat. "He does say that his brother hit him over the head with a shovel and it is very clear there was a lot of trouble over nothing," she added. (The article has a pullout quote which says “It is very clear there was a lot of trouble over nothing” - LIZ PARKER in large letters) District Judge Peter Ward, who imposed the bind over, asked in court: "You can make shepherd's pie without tomatoes can't you?" But 'legal' opinion at Blackburn magistrates, where the issue became quite a talking point, was divided. A female defence solicitor said it should be made with lamb and topped with sliced tomatoes and that a pie made with b…

Remember folks, don't use Meta for Welsh translation work..
An image of a police report originally in Welsh, but translated badly, into English:

"North Police are investigating a series of burglaries after several petrol stations in Gwynedd said they were targeted over the weekend.

A number of petrol station owners claimed that a woman filled her car with fuel and left without paying.

In addition to the petrol stations, a coot owner selling teeth in Rhoshirwaun has said his company has been drowned at the same time.

The authorities believe he is the one person responsible for all the thefts.

No arrests have been made at this time."
