A lazy Sunday was transformed by going to a bookshop on the amusingly named Bellenden Rd. Was flooded by so many endorphins that I had to go for a drink to settle down. Wow. Just finished reading London Falling by Patrick Radden Keefe - completely gripping, one of the best books I’ve read in a while, superb as both a true crime and social history book which read like a John Le Carrè novel. Incredible. Highly recommend it. 📚

I really enjoyed this twisty but unconvoluted story of double-crossing French gangtsers. More trenchcoat than you can shake a stick at. Lots of scenes of near-wordless pure cinema, including a centrepiece sequence on a train. 1/3

Some lovely paintings from yesterday’s visit to the National Gallery. I tend to loiter in the Dutch Masters rooms but ventured into the French 1800’s rooms and didn’t quite realise how many Monet’s we had as a nation.

Went to the National Gallery yesterday & they had these 2 paintings, In 1869 Renoir & Monet went together to the same location, Renoir the master storyteller & figurative artist concentrated on the people, Monet the great landscape prioritised the setting. Fascinating to see them side by side

Not seen this film for at least 15 years. Mainly because I thinkQuentin Tarantino is a wanker. Put it on and forgot just how glorious it was. So enjoyable. Regret to say it’s a masterpiece.
