Apologies if Norfolk/Suffolk/Cambs moth websites are running slow. It’s very busy on the websites at the moment, and unfortunately the CPU on one of the server banks has had enough! Not helped by Googlebots spamming the site (now blocked) hopefully things should improve. Thanks for your patience.

This little Cosmopterix scribaiella (Reed Beauty) was a nice surprise in my garden moth trap on Tuesday night. They’re spreading but not many record in Norfolk yet. There are no reed beds in my little garden so presumably it wandered here from somewhere else. #NorfolkMoths #TeamMoth
Cosmopterix scribaiella (Reed Beauty).

A very elongated moth with a red eye and long palps curved up and back. The wings are mostly dark brown but there’s a broad orange band crossing them at about two thirds of the way along. This orange band is bordered both sides by thin bands of shiny silvery-white scales. The orange spoils through the rear silver band (which is characteristic of this species) and continues in a line until it meets a fine white line that carries on to the apex. There are also several fine silvery-white lines through the base of the wings.

1/13: My mind was well & truly blown by an incredible moth-ing session (Fri pm/Sat am) with next level moth-er Mick A'Court in the #Norfolk #Broads. So many #moths, so many new-for-me species....but only one place to begin - Oecophora bractella #mothsmatter #teammoth #norfolkmoths #bugsky
Oecophora bractella (Beautiful Bark Moth).

A small micro moth, the front half yellow, the rear half mostly black with a yellow spot at ¾ on the leading edge of the forewing. The black areas have blue iridescent lines/blotches in the right light. Resting on an egg tray facing right.

This is the species I was hoping to see, I could barely believe it when Mick spotted one on just the third egg tray of the morning!!! Such an amazing encounter, I spent 45 wonderful minutes watching it and taking far too many photos! And would you believe it, in the last (5th) trap of the morning Mick revealed another individual in the bottom of the trap on one of the last trays to come out. 🤯Oecophora bractella (Beautiful Bark Moth).

Sweeping birch under oak this morning provided two new insects: the Nationally Scarce Pammene splendidulana (Shining Oak Tortrix) & the commoner Anaspis fasciata. Later 4 Wood Sandpipers with the local Crane #NorfolkBirding. Green Hairstreak & Pammene rhediella (Fruitlet Mining Tortrix) there too.
Shining Oak Tortrix (Pammene splendidulana), side view.

A small grey-brown moth covered in pale vermiculations, stronger towards the apex of the wing. Through these are a number of curved fascia that appear grey in the photo but are reflective and silvery in life. There is a large black discal spot and two smaller black subterminal spots.

#NorfolkMothsShining Oak Tortrix (Pammene splendidulana), dorsal view.

This species has a white diamond-shaped dorsal blotch which appears quite prominent in some photos of the species, but on this individual this blotch is quite indistinct.

#TeamMothAnaspis fasciata.

A black beetle with four large orangey-red blotches on its wing cases. The base of the antennae are the same colour.

...this morning. The lure went out & instantly, there was a Bluebell Conch. I took photos. I looked at them & one of Monday's moths. The same moth! Amazing given I watched it launch itself into the air & away over the churchyard. @linnetincley.bsky.social #cleymothobs #norfolkmoths #teammoth 3/3
I'm pretty sure that, maybe the odd scale or two aside, that this is the same moth, with photos taken 48 hours apart.

Monday's moth flew off so high & off, way off, over the churchyard & funnily enough, it did the very same thing today.

10's of 1000's of Common Bluebells today (heady scent on the breeze 👌) & we headed to a spot where we found Bluebell Conch (Small Bluebell Beauty) - Hysterophora maculosana - in 2025. After an hour, we finally found one. Archive 2025 shot too. @linnetincley.bsky.social #cleymothobs #norfolkmoths
Bluebell Conch - the only one we could find today - buried in dry bracken & quite unlike our previous encounter in the same spot last spring. Bluebell Conch from the same spot this time last year.
