When I first read about the death penalty as a child, I thought it was barbaric. Still do. A state that gives itself the judicial power to kill debases itself and everyone it involves in that repulsive business.

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

Tories would prevent long-term jobless spending benefits on alcohol and cigarettes
The proposals would also see benefits cut for people who are able to work but have failed to hold down a job.

Who is English? What is a woman? Right-wing discourse in the UK is increasingly comprised of word games in which one assumes the perspective of an omniscient god, entirely divorced from any understanding of how states "see" their citizens.

For years I've been told that aviation emissions are negligible, so don't worry your little head about them. But I've kept pointing out that there are - and will be - no good technical solutions, and they'll keep growing. Now we know just how big the problem is. www.carbonbrief.org/ccc-heathrow...

The RNLI are national heroes: the pride of Britain. Fuck any wheezingly impotent Nazi scumbag who says differently. The Masked Micrococks haven’t even got the nerve to show their faces in a gaggle of no-custody divorcee cockrings, let alone do something remotely courageous for the country.
RNLI Statement:

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea.
But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our Lifesaving work in the Channel.
As a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse.
This is unacceptable.
The RNLI's people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they've never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.
We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.
We launched 9,058 times in 2025.
Only 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel
- 1.2% of our total rescue work. Anyone rescued from a small boat by the RNLI is then taken into the care of the relevant UK authorities.
To those who stand with the RNLI, thank you. For more than two hundred years, we've saved lives at sea around the UK and Ireland, and that commitment remains unchanged.
