Does the new shingles vaccine (Shingrix) protect against cardiovascular disease (CVD)? Yes, according to a new 'natural experiment' study in @natmed.nature.com. But the truth is sadly far less convincing! Pull up a chair and let's examine another peer review failure in a Nature journal. 1/10 🧵

Everyone is back at work, so I feel a bit less bad asking - any postdocs in psychgen coming up? I have a PhD in genetics of psychosis from King’s and postdoc experience from Mount Sinai in postpartum psychosis, autism, and ADHD. Thankful for those who sent suggestions, just wide net casting!

15 years in the making, we confirmed that mitochondria - the powerhouse of the cell - have an unusual localization in patients who experience psychosis (including schizophrenia and bipolar disorders). You’ll never guess what kind of patient cells we used to make this discovery… 🧵
mitochondria from bipolar patients are closer to the nucleus in these images; control patients' are spread out further
