When my MIL had two strokes in under a year and could no longer walk or use her left arm, she was denied benefits until appeal; when my husband finally got his fibromyalgia diagnosis, the DWP assessor didn't believe he had fibro because "it's a women's disease" and denied his claim.

Disability doesn’t care how old you are. Specialist food is no cheaper if you’re 19. Employers don’t lose their prejudice if you’re 21. This is blatant intergenerational inequality from Labour. Younger disabled people of all severities deserve better. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Some of my art depicting ancient Greek pottery #PixelArt #AncientGreece
Pixel art of a Panathenaic Amphora, with info as follows: A vase that would have been filled with olive oil from a sacred grove and given as a prize to victors at the Panathenaic Games. The image uses 7 colours: black and dark grey, golden yellow, yellow brown, and dark brown; and creamy white and creamy light grey.Pixel art depicting a Corinthian pyxis housed in the Louvre. Dating to the Archaic era, it depicts a swan framed by two lions or other large cats, with dots filling the blank space between them and geometric patterns above and below. The palette comprises cream, light yellow, oranges and warm browns.Pixel art in 32x32 pixels depicting a Greek arybalos (a small vessel with a single handle, usually for storage of perfumes and scented oils). The decoration on the vessel shows the mythical weaving contest between Arachne and the goddess Athene, after which Athene, angry that a mortal would consider challenging her, turned her opponent into a spider. The palette uses navy, blue, yellow, red and white, from the Septembit 2023 palette.Pixel art of a geometric Greek jug, or oenichoe, from the 8th century BCE. The vessel is beige with decorations in a warm orange: horizontal lines around the bottom half, the back half of a large cat above, with diamonds above that and parallel lines in various directions on the spout section. The handle has a thick line down its length. The palette uses three shades of beige and three of orange, with two shades of grey for the background and border.

There are NOT machine-made clothes. If there were, your clothes would be made in the country you live in (where the customers are), or in China (where machines are cheap). They’re made in Bangladesh or India or Indonesia because that’s where the LABOUR is cheap. Your clothes are made by people.
Joyce Carol Oates says: “This is why Al-generated romance novels make perfect sense. Formulaic fiction doesn't need to be written by hand, so to speak; what difference does it make if a machine "writes" it? There are machine-made clothes & there are custom-made clothes. They appeal to
different consumers.“

Oh she's gonna be burned as a witch. Which technically she is (well, I call her a druid, but it's very witchy) but in Crusader Kings III early medieval Europe that's not gonna go down well. Unless she becomes the court physician for a sympathetic ruler.

it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

People aren’t faking their disabilities, they’re faking being well. We know society hates us. We know we will be judged for using assistive devices. Many of us take years to get the courage to lean in to accommodations. Stop judging. Help us build a more inclusive world.

England is a made up thing. It has no basis in the ineluctable laws of nature. Its extent is defined by Edward II getting his arse handed to him. Athelstan conquering York. The Welsh of Cumbria were incorporated, the Welsh of Gwynedd were not. It is a political idea, an aspiration - not taxonomy.

In a society where it's possible for one person to have more wealth than 1000 people could spend in a lifetime, the idea that anyone should be living in poverty is sickening. There is enough wealth in the world to end world hunger and homelessness, if only it wasn't so concentrated in so few hands.

Speaking of #batmanday , if Two Face flips a coin & then kills someone, the coin is not the one responsible for murder. The US military can’t hold AI responsible for murdering Iranian school girls because a machine cannot make a decision. You flipped the coin. See, Batman is a useful story after all

A serious democratic society simply cannot allow this. That's £72 million from just two men. (Both, until lately, based overseas). The average UK earner (full-time) would have to work for over 1,800 years to raise that much. It's a nuclear strike on any pretence at the equality of political power

I met a traveller from an antique land who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies... From Ozymandias by Percy Shelley, my inspiration for "desert" for #Septembit day 5. #PixelArt
Pixel art of a desert featuring, in the foreground, the ruined remnants of a statue: on the left, two feet, broken above the ankle, upon a pedestal half buried in the hand; on the right, and a little further away, a half-buried face lying on its side. It has a flared Egyptian pharaoh head dress. Beyond it the lone and level sands stretch into the dunes on the horizon.
