What I Ordered vs What I Got, #Dressmaker edition (my own work)
A screenshot from Dressmaker showcasing a pink silk and dark pink velvet dress with lace trim and ruffles, pearl bead trim and a pink bow. The dress looks fit for a princess. The background is a white marble staircase with golden banisters and pink flowers in alcoves.Screenshot from Dressmaker showing a plain white dress with a picture of the first dress made out of trim, complete with the mannequin and reflective shimmer, on the skirt. The background is plain grey.

I've seen the new Sense and Sensibility. It was very good. Standout performance was Mrs Jennings. Weather portrayed was more representative of stereotype than reality. A small but revealing embellishment not from the book was added but it was a good scene. Very enjoyable.

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

I have never seen coverage of a live trial, one involving allegations of multiple sex attacks on multiple women, framed in a more distasteful way. It's not 'Fame under fire' it's a rape trial. And it involves actual women. And this from the *checks notes* BBC
BBC screengrab from within their Russell Brand trial coverage. Image of Brand in 70s-style aviator glasses, with earpods in, blank expression. Long dark wavy hair, black and grey beard, dark unbuttoned shirt. All on a fire red/orange and black background
BBC logo top and centre, underneath a subdeck reading: Fame Under Fire. Then the headline 'Russell Brand On Trial'.
The words 'fire'and 'trial' are coloured to look like they are glowing orange at the bottom

Actual Cancel Culture of a significant cultural figure [unlike where far right extremists engage in hate speech & are held accountable]. It’s extremism like this, & the disinterest of the current UK Labour govt in stopping the shift to the far right, that’s deeply worrying.

Ok here it is! The Skye Dress, inspired by the Paw Patrol character. #Dressmaker #PawPatrol
A dress in the video game Dressmaker. It is made with pink silks, featuring a bodice made from a single piece, a light pink patterned upright collar, short sleeves, and a large skirt made of three layers, where the central column is the same pink as the bodice and the sides are a lighter pink. On the bodice there is what looks like a zip and dog tag, details of which are shown in the next image.A close up on the upper bodice of the Skye Dress. It shows the "zip" is the platemail trim with pink piping either side, and the "Puptag" is a silk flower with short, enlarged sections of platemail trim for rotor blades and a button in the middle.

This morning, while my daughter has been watching Paw Patrol on my lap while I play Dressmaker, I've been making a dress inspired by Skye, the pup with the helicopter. She has decided to play with her blocks now but when I finish it, I'll share the dress and the pup tag detail. Fun challenge!

There’s really only one way to mark the 99th anniversary of Roger Moore’s birth
Marc Haynes’ story: As a 7 year old in about 1983, … I was with my grandad in Nice Airport and saw Roger Moore Sitting at the departure gate, ... told my granddad i'd just seen James Bond and asked if we could go over so I could get his autograph. …so we walked over and he popped me in front of Roger Moore, with the words "my grandson says you're famous. Can you sign this?" As charming as you'd expect, Roger asks my name and signs the back of my plane ticket... I'm ecstatic, but …I glance down at the signature. … it definitely doesn't say 'James Bond'. ...I tell my grandad he's signed it wrong, … so my grandad heads back to Roger Moore...
"he says you've signed the wrong name. He says your name is James Bond." Roger Moore's face crinkled up with realisation and he beckoned me over. …he leant over, looked from side to side, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said "I have to sign my name as 'Roger Moore because otherwise...Blofeld might find out I was here." He asked me not to tell anyone …and thanked me for keeping his secret. I went back to our seats, my nerves absolutely jangling with delight. My grandad asked me if he'd signed 'James Bond.' No, I said.
I'd got it wrong. I was working with James Bond now. Many years later, I was working on a recording that involved UNICEF, and Roger Moore was doing a piece to camera as an ambassador. He was lovely and while the cameramen were setting up, I told him the story. He …had a chuckle and said "Well, I don't remember but I'm glad you got to meet James Bond." So that was lovely. And then he did something so brilliant. After the filming, he walked past me in the corridor, heading out to his car - but as he got level, he paused looked both ways, raised an eyebrow and in a hushed voice said, "Of course I remember our meeting in Nice. But I didn't say anything in there, because those cameramen - any one of them could be working for Blofeld."
I was as delighted at 30 as I had been at 7. What a man. What a tremendous man.

Oh and samples. I want to be able to see how a fabric will affect traits for a dress without actually having to buy metres of it. I know I could just buy one metre but having a samples tab in the sketch book would be handy.

I am loving Dressmaker. It's fun and cute and quirky and I'm very invested in these characters. But two things I want in a future update: the ability to name an off the rack dress, and the ability to select traits for off the rack dresses that are then highlighted as if for a commission.

My daughter loves singing a nursery rhyme that goes "see saw, Marjorie Daw, Johnny shall have a new master, he shall earn but a penny a day because he can't work any faster". Nonsense of course but also very exploitative for today's wage rates. Good thing she doesn't understand money yet.

Sick of the UK government seeing more people get diagnoses and treatment for things, and thinking that means people are being wrongly diagnosed or treated, rather than it just being that people are more aware and have better access to healthcare now. See also: trans healthcare in Wales.

In 1990 people thought autism was a male condition. Why? Because nobody had bothered actually researching how it presents in girls and women. By 2010 girls and women started actually getting diagnosed. Were we overdiagnosed because there were lots of us? NO! We were just finally being recognised.

More people are getting diagnosed because more people are aware of ADHD and its symptoms, and there's been more research on it. Actually getting diagnosed is a serious struggle. I got referred by my GP in July, still waiting for so much as a letter confirming as such from the assessment provider.

That such a clause can exist is utterly disgraceful. That it's common is a scandal. Employers should only be entitled to work undertaken while the employee is on the clock. Our free time should be *ours*, as should anything we make in it.

I have never found that, sadly. If I'm in a state where I need to tell myself to calm down, I'm not in a state where I'm capable of calming down without some external influence to help (music, hug from loved one, distraction) and just telling myself makes me more aware of how not calm I am.

Hello Bone Colleagues,
I have invented a new type of ankle and I'm very excited to show it to you. Early raccoon trials suggest a 60% increase in scurrying speed and dramatic increases in fine motor banditry. I know we are not supposed to create super raccoons, but I think you'll change your mind and professional ethics when you see how cute they are. I believe we are on the cusp of a new era in advanced human scurrying because if medical science has taught me anything, it's that improvements in raccoons correspond 1:1 to improvements in humans.

It’s so funny to imagine what the UK could be like if it took seriously any of its cultural icons—that aren’t wizards, Shakespeare, or in possession of good fortune but in want of a wife. We could have Tyranid statues at Heathrow. Perhaps a grisly frieze depicting Servitor conversion at Gatwick.

If we had a federal government that wasn't firmly up the ass of Big AI, they'd make it a crime for an AI to put people in mortal danger by sending them into wilderness areas with fictional instructions. If a human kept doing this, they'd probably go to jail, even under existing laws.
