AP Stylebook warns against anthropomorphizing AI systems: “Avoid language that gives them human characteristics… Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.”
APStylebook @APStylebook

Artificial intelligence systems do not think, feel, want or understand. Avoid language that gives them human characteristics. This is called anthropomorphizing, when we ascribe human traits, emotions or behaviors to non-human things, such as animals or inanimate objects.
Instead, explain what a system does, how well it performs, who built it and who could be affected by it.

So, the smugness over whether Ed Sheeran is either a plastic paddy, or somehow not really Irish because of one granny is doing my head in. I was born in Bradford. Moved back to Dublin when I was 5. Been regularly, jokingly called a plastic paddy by my own good friends. It’s fucking shite.

We placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it, and found an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books.

Research on firefighters shows that even 15 minutes of intense heat exposure makes it harder to focus and control attention. Scientists still don't know what days-long heat waves do to our minds—or how long the effects last.

You sometimes see Government TDs pointing out that Ireland isn’t unique in the world in having a housing crisis. But this graph in today’s Financial Times shows just how extreme ours is compared to the places elsewhere, which also describe themselves as a in a housing crisis.
The share of young adults living with their parents is climbing in many countries and cities, with Ireland leading the way % of people aged 25-34 who live with their parents. National averages vs major regions

[5 line graphs. Ireland’s is sharply above 40% since 2010. The rest show US, U.K., Canada and Australia. The next highest result is the US at just over 20%]
