There are a lot of really good books and films on this planet.

THE MONSTER SHOW David J. Skal New York: W.W. Norton (1993) This cultural history of horror is a foundational text; when I first read it, it sent me scurrying to the library; David inspired me to complete a masters at Trinity; inscribed at the Stag’s Head in 2008. Day 3/31 #Booktober #Halloween

Just thinking: I once passed up on buying a signed copy of The King in Yellow. Not sure why I passed as the price was more than reasonable and far, far less than it would fetch today now that everyone has "discovered" the book.

Yesterday we announced our forthcoming title GHOSTS ON THE CAM edited by Robert Lloyd Parry. This meticulously researched volume gives insight into M. R. James's Cambridge, and even sheds light on the possible identity of the elusive "DNJ". Pre-order here: swanriverpress.ie/srp-title/gh...

THE DOLL-MASTER and Other Tales of Terror Joyce Carol Oates New York: Mysterious Press (2016) The title story is unsettling, pulls no punches; Joyce signed my cherished copy at the Dublin Ghost Story Festival in 2018. She remains a powerhouse of the grotesque. Day 2/31 #Booktober #Halloween🎃👻

Definitely a horror film cliche, the upside down forest shot, usually tracking in on a lone car. This is Evil Dead 2013. What other horror films do this? What's the earliest example?

My cover wrap for Ghosts on the Cam. A tricky one because all the photo reference is partial views with conflicting perspectives. I scaled back some of the foliage which has grown a lot more over the past century. There may be a ghost in this picture.
A wide blue-tinted nocturnal view of the Bridge of Sighs which spans the River Cam in Cambridge. Spot the ghost.

I do like finding publishing ephemera. Here's a brochure from Tartarus Press, c. 2003. STRANGE TALES was the first of five anthology volumes edited by Rosalie Parker. They had just launched their journal WORMWOOD. Tartarus are still going strong. Order books from them: www.tartaruspress.com
