I spent the best part of a year thinking about some of the data issues involved in people dying and what happens to their conversations and social media accounts and now I have to live it for real. It is a shit tonne of work. It wasn’t easy when it is pen and paper and it’s less easy now.

Great question. This is true also of music streaming services. Here's one design. Each rightsholder publishes the work on their own server. This gets indexed so that we have a global database of it all. People use a client of their choosing that can negotiate payments, and find & play content.
