It is breathtaking. Like many things these days it is hard, but necessary, to figure what is a continuity and what is a rupture. EdTech has always been a private sector parasite feeding off the public sector. The rupture is AI EdTech is experimenting on the rich instead of the poor.

This is good and true.
The left does not need to pursue its own exoneration in this moment. There is no reason to indulge the fantasy that we governed the nation during these recent, disastrous years, or that our country's brief flirtation with racial justice was an unthinkable disaster with countless innocent victims. Are we, the left, messy as hell? Absolutely. Do I get sick of our shit sometimes? You bet. But our politics are not the politics that have detached this country from reality, or normalized increasingly inhuman policies.

This transformation reveals what was most courageous about Plante’s leadership: she was willing to act before a consensus existed, and let people experience the alternative for themselves. In a political culture where reallocating road space is always intensely polarising, that takes a lot of nerve.

Across 9.3 kilometres of 11 commercial arteries in seven boroughs, entire corridors have been handed back to pedestrians, helping some 2,100 businesses thrive in the process.🧵

Sharing this helpful article "Identifying White Mediocrity and Know-Your-Place Aggression: A Form of Self-Care" from my wonderful BU colleague Koritha Mitchell (with her links to additional resources below): muse.jhu.edu/article/715439
This article offers a primer on identifying what the author calls "know-your-place aggression" as well as the violence of white mediocrity being treated as merit. The author argues that gaining clarity about these hostile tendencies is a form of self-
care. Examples include experiences with racism, (hetero)sexism, trans antagonism, ableism, and Islamophobia. Understanding know-your-place aggression and white mediocrity can prevent marginalized communities from wasting energy by worrying about the opinions of people who use objective standards to judge everyone but themselves. The author encourages this form of self-care because she believes it can empower
members of marginalized groups to save their energy for what matters most, the quality of their lives and their contributions to research.

Screenshot from Mark's article about a recent ruling by Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Todd Eddins, reading as follows:

The Roberts court, Eddins declared, “sees only white. It refuses to acknowledge who the Equal Protection Clause was written to protect. The freed people, their descendants, and all others denied equal citizenship. It turns its back on what is in plain sight. The Fourteenth Amendment is not colorblind. It never was.” He continued:

The court calls the Constitution colorblind while engineering the dilution of Black votes, the unraveling of hard-fought civil rights remedies, and the erasure of Black history. That is not blindness. That is white sight, by design. A Constitution interpreted this way is not colorblind. It is whatever the court needs it to be. A way to advance its partisan project.
