Tennessee’s new 9-0 GOP gerrymander would erase the Black VRA 9th District, its only Dem seat. Shown below, the map splits Memphis and Nashville almost evenly into 3 districts each where white Republicans would outvote Black Dems in each city. Interactive map davesredistricting.org/join/2921405...
Graphic of Tennessee Republicans' proposed 9-0 congressional gerrymander that turns the majority-Black and solidly Democratic 9th District in Memphis into a majority-white and safely Republican seat. A statewide map on top shows the 2024 presidential election results by district, which are all colored solidly red because Donald Trump won each by at least 20 percentage points. On the right side, a chart shows the election results and the percentage of the population that is white or Black for each district and the state.

On the bottom are two insets of the heavily Democratic Memphis and Nashville areas with the district lines overlaid on a map of the Black population percentage in each precinct. The map splits each city into three districts that are heavily white and Republican, with roughly a third of each city in a different district. Memphis is nearly two-thirds Black, but the map largely splits Black voters there into two districts that sprawl hundreds of miles eastward from the confluence of the Arkansas and Mississippi borders to the Nashville exurbs in the center of the state.
