this story is nuts — UNC Health briefly adopted BidShift, a platform that has nurses bid against eachother for hard-to-fill shifts, so that the hourly premium rate (already substantially lower than it was pre-pandemic) keeps dropping. It pivoted after backlash.

People don’t understand how fragile our water infrastructure is. I’ve had contaminated water in the last six years. I’ve had my water co. hijacked for digital ransom. We are in perpetual near drought conditions... in NC, not AZ. AI boosters use pedantry about water use as an accountability shield.

according to the article, it took hours after the personal intervention of the mayor for his family to even get basic information about him. that information included that he had been transferred to ICE custody hours after being shot. no amnesty
